Can I take a supplement contataining 50mg potassium. ## Hello, Annette! How are you? You shouldn't take an additional potassium supplement, unless your doctor has specifically said you need one. If you abruptly stop them, it could cause a rebound effect that may cause your blood pressure and heart rate to go very high, which could put you in life threatening danger. My insurance company insisted that I change from Avalide 150mg/HCT 12.5mg to Lorsartan 50mg/HCT 12.5mg. Are the dosages equivilant? ## Yes, that is the equivalent dosage. Avalide contains Irbesartan with the Hydrochlorothiazide and the Losartan is actually a stronger medication, so it only takes 50mgso f it to equal the 150mgs of the Irbesartan.
