Just need fast relief. ## Hello, Sandra! How are you feeling? To know if an antibiotic is working, you shouldn't see any worsening of your condition after taking it for 24 hours and improvement should start after being on it for 3 days, so yes, that's a little to soon to expect a change. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. I have a two year old prescription of amoxicillin from the dentist that I barely even touched. Now I'm showing syptoms of an UTI because I never drink any water. Would it be safe to take now? ## Hello Mike! How are you feeling? The first step to take would be to start drinking some water regularly. It is actually a misconception that you need to drink 8 8ounce glasses a day. That is the total amount of fluid your body needs for the day, but you do get a lot of it from your food and other beverages, so even adding just a glass or two of water can help. It is especially important for flushing out your kidneys, if you continue to avoid water, you may find yourself in kidney failure eventually. As to the Amoxicillin, medications lose effectiveness over time, so it will most likely not b...

My boyfriend took amoxicillin a year ago for a infection he did not finish the prescription an now has the same chest infection again and he wants to take the amoxicillin that's left, I want to know if it is safe for him to do this.... ## Hi, Tina! He should see his doctor for a new prescription. The reasons I'm saying that are because if these are just the leftovers from an old prescription for an infection, he may not have enough to fully eradicate this infection, which creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria and that can be very dangerous. Plus, after a year from the date they were dispensed to him, they begin to lose effectiveness and that also ups the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. Are there any ot...

My 6 year old had a possible allergic reaction to amoxicillin. We stopped giving her the medication after only 2 doses. However, 2 days after stopping the medication, her rash is not only not going away, it is intensifying and spreading. Is this normal? What should I do to help alleviate the rash and itching? I have been giving her Benadryl regularly. ## Hi Lori, Sorry to hear about your child's reaction to Amoxicillin. According to NIH.gov, this is indicative of an allergic reaction. However, it may be that the antibiotic is still trying to find its way out of her system. NIH goes on to note that the half-life of Amoxicillin is 61.3 minutes....Further, approx. 60% of an orally administered dose of amoxicillin is said to be excreted in the urine within a period of 6 to 8 hours. This...

I got a real real bad toothache and got a unopened bottle of amoxicillin liquid kind I have for 4 months and I'm pg well it hurt to take ## This medication does not become dangerous, once expired, but it does lose efficacy with time, so if it is expired, it may not work as well as it did, when new, which creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. It would be best to see your dentist for a fresh antibiotic, if one is required and to have the problem that caused the toothache corrected. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi My daughter has 2 bottle of amoxicillin in the refrigerator. Never used but already mixed. The pink one. The expiration date in the bottle says January 2018. Will it still be good to use? The actual date mixed was July 18 2016 ## In my opinion it should be perfectly fine to take. I say this because I would personally feel comfortable taking it based on the info you provided. Depending on storage conditions many prescriptions can reportedly last up to 40 years after the listed expiration date (with few exceptions such as tetracycline). Harvard University and the LA Times both have articles online recognizing this... But since it's not even January 2018 yet I wouldn't even begin to question its efficacy (especially because it has been refrigerated)... Does anyone else have thou...

My child got amoxicillin in the middle of February. It says to throw away March 6 would it be safe to continue using. ## @Daniela, Long term studies from Harvard University as well the LA Times, both determined that many pharmaceutical drugs still remain safe 10-40 years after the listed expiration date. Knowing this, I wouldn't foresee any problems taking something that's only a month past due. I also highly doubt that it would've lost any efficacy in such a short time frame. Further research I've done suggests that many expiration dates are not necessarily "exact", but are rather based upon mere speculation and short term studies. Often times drug companies only evaluate efficacy/safety up to a certain point; and in order to get consumers to continue purchasing...

Can an infected tatoo be treated with amoxicillin ## Hi sunny, To answer your question, Amoxicillin can be used to treat "certain" skin infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. However I'd still recommend having it checked out by a doctor to make sure that you're using the most appropriate treatment option at the correct dosage and duration. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Amoxicillin Details I hope this helps!

However, side effects, or the effects of an allergic reaction may linger for a week or two. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have 9 pills of amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium 875/125 mg that were supposed to have been used before 9-8-16. I started taking Amoxicillin 500mg for three days I have stopped taking it because I've noticed mild weakness in my legs and arms how longs does it take amoxicillin to leave my system and for me to feel normal again? ## If you only took it for a few days, it shouldn't take long, at all, maybe a week. The FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've taken nine 500mg tablets of Alphamox (3 times a day for 3 days). I would like to know how long it will take for it to completely leave my system now that I have stopped taking it? This is because I need to take a new medication but can't until Alphamox is out of my system as it won't work with the Alphamox. (The new medication is Fluconazole 150mg). ## Hi Jenna, according to this site's half life calculator a dose of Amoxicillin would be metabolized in about 17 hours. Keep in mind that this is just an estimate and does not factor in that you have taken multiple doses. I'd give it a full 24 hours to be safe, and I would also double check with the pharmacist since they could inform you of possible interactions after that period of time. Also, antibiotics can conti...

what is the shelf life of amoxicillin 45 ## These contain 500mgs of Amoxicillin and, if they have been dispensed in a pharmacy bottle, then the normal shelf life is 1 year from when you had it filled. After that year, they start to lose effectiveness. If they are in the original factory sealed container, their shelf life may be longer. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Could you please provide a citation that shows there is a minimum of one year of shelf life after the prescription is filled?

I started amoxicillin 100 mg 2 days ago for a sinus infection. All of a sudden I have lower back pain. I read this was one side effect. It came up all a sudden. I stopped taking it. I can't sleep or walk much because of the pain ## Hello, Julie! How are you? I'n very sorry about how you're feeling. It is odd for it to cause such severe pain. However, it should only take a couple days for things to settle back down, since you were on it for such a short period of time. However, if you have an infection that requires treatment, you should return to your doctor, so they can prescribe a different antibiotic. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Can I use an open liquid amoxicillin for a 2 year old that I got on 11/03/2016? He's been messing with one of his ears. ## Hi Sara, I see you posted this back on December 28th 2016 so you may have already come to a consensus on what to do... But I would say that if it has been left open for nearly two months or longer then that's probably not something I would recommend taking. Liquid solutions in particular I believe are more susceptible to going bad than tablets. Not to mention that any impurities might have made their way into the open bottle during that time period. I also think the effort to get a fresh antibiotic will ultimately be worth while, to ensure the safety and efficacy of the treatment. My best wishes to you and your son!
