I have a past history of syphilis (20 years ago) and was treated. My diagnosis had shown negative up until this year - rpr 1:1 as of 6/30/2017 and Ftb/Abs positive as of 2 weeks ago. As of 8/12/2017 I took doxycycline 100mg twice a day for 14 days. Ftb/abs positive after treatment & contagious. ## It could be that you were given the wrong antibiotic, it is usually recommended that it be treated with Penicillin, unless the person is allergic to it. Generally, it only requires one large dose, according to NIH reports. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Have you spoken to your doctor about it? Are you on any other medications?

I've been taking the med to cure chlamydia and I'm on my last two days. It seems to not have been working cause I'm stilling seeing a discharge and have itchy genitals. ## Hello, Nick! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you're having. This antibiotic can also cause yeast infections, as a side effect, so its possible that you've developed one. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. But it is also possible that you may need a stronger antibiotic or a longer course of treatment with one. Have you consulted your doctor, yet?

I took doxycycline in feburary for a root canal then in april for sinus infection. Now my gyno has me on it because she removed a cervical poylip. I'm wondering if taking this so many times is harmfull or will it break down your imun.system? ## It really depends on the specific bacteria being treated. If they are all the same, then yes, you do run the risk of developing antibiotic resistance, which means that, in the future, this medication may no longer work for you. However, if it is still working now to treat or prevent infections, then there is really no reason to worry. In many cases, doctors like to reuse an antibiotic that you have taken in the past, because it's already been established that you aren't allergic to it. However, if you are concerned, then in the future...

I have doxycycline for acne in capsules that's about 2 years old , is it ok to take ## Hello, Tv! How are you? It would be best to dispose of it and obtain a new prescription, if you need an antibiotic. Medications tend to degrade over time and lose efficacy, which means it may not work as well as it did, when it was new and that creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Doxycycline as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can I take Doxycyline before dental fillings..I have knee and elbow metal replacements.. ## Hello, Mbe! How are you? Is this what your doctor has instructed you to take? Usually, the antibiotic given before dental work is Amoxicillin. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. It's usually just one dose, pre-procedure to prevent possible infection, similarly to what many heart patients take.

I have been using doxycycline for the past six years to treat acne. I am worried that if I stop taking doxycycline my acne will flare up again. I have tried cold turkey once and within a week my acne became a real problem. I have been trying to reduce my daily intake. Currently I take 1 50 mg tablet every other day. My acne is still lingering around, but the drug seems to help prevent large pimples from forming. I have really oily skin, and I swear a lot when exercising. I think I am just an acne prone person. Im 29 years old. I eat healthy. I dont drink or smoke. I stay up late a lot due to work and school. I would like to reach my goal of being acne free because it would help my self esteem. Im worried about the long term side effects of taking an antibiotic like doxycycline for such ...

I have a bottle of doxycycline that expired this past March. Is this still ok to use? ## Hello, Sara! How are you? Once expired, antibiotics tend to lose effectiveness, which increases the risk of it not working adequately and causing you to develop antibiotic resistant bacteria. Thus, it would be best to see your doctor for a new prescription, if you have an infection. The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

i have a chest infection prescribed 1x100mg per day of doxycycline capsul is this strong enough as i am feeling no better after 5 days ## Have you contacted your doctor? My doctor put me on Doxycycline for 3 weeks after noticing a bullseye around a bite on my arm. I was outside three days earlier in an area that had tick warnings, so she had a strong suspicion it was Lyme. But the bite actually had two puncture wounds and not the typical bullseye where you see a distinct ring around it. So now I’m thinking it might actually be a spider bite. I’m concerned I might be on antibiotics for no reason. Is it harmful to be on antibiotics for so long if I’m not sick? She did a blood analysis, but said it will most likely come back negative since I just got bit. I was told the blood work won’t show anything for another few weeks, so I could be taking a risk if I stop the antibiotic. Does anyone know if a tick bite would have two punctures?...

my doctor put me on a combination of sulfamethoxazole and doxycycline after they lanced an infected oil gland on my back. the sulfa was first 4 days and I was ok. then they lanced it again and added doxy. I got a really bad sore throat and cold that they said was coincidence! and I would get really nauseous for a few hours after taking the meds. That nausea seemed to get worse each time. I could not go to work today so called dr. to see if I could take the pills once a day at night? get sick at night and still work? or what suggestions and a nurse called me back and said, "just stop taking them," this, after they gave me the warning in the office, 'make sure you finishe the whole course.' I'm confused. I don't want to do more harm later if I stop these now. Calle...

I have had Urithritis going on almost 2 months. I have been tested for all major STDs and have come back negative. I have been put on Ciproflaxion and 2 rounds of Azithromycin... Hi, I have been taking doxycycline for about a year to fight back chronic MRSA Staph infection in the femur (had several operations on leg so far). I am alergic to some other antibiotics and tried Septra and that gave me rashes. So I am kind of stuck with Doxy. A few months after I started taking Doxy I started developing what I thought at the time was general anxiety disorder as I would develop chest tightness/pressure and general nervousness which in turn would make it extremely difficult to concentrate at work and hard to hold up conversations with people. Sure I have some anxiety over bills, work, life, but nothing that I obsessively worry about. However, thinking my issue was anxiety I started taking anti-anxiety meds (BuSpar and Ativan) - I got off the Ativan about 3 weeks ago as ...
