Looking for new things happening in the medical field about this drug. ## Ativan is NOT new, it was approved by the FDA and placed on the prescription drug market in 1977. The active ingredient is Lorazepam. This is a Benzodiazepine, so in the same class as Valium or Xanax and just as addictive. How long it takes to start working depends on your body and metabolism, it can range from 2 weeks to a month. Some of the most common side effects include: sedation, dizziness and weakness. ## Just been put on gabapentin for pelvic pain caused by interstitial cystitis. First week is 100 mg three times a day. Hard to believe but first three days felt like my old self but now pain is back. Was that unusual or does that happen. Also will it help me as time goes on My doctor wants to slowly increase...

I'll try to make this as short as possible. How can I ask or hint at that I need a refill without sounding like an addict? I'm suffering from Agoraphobia, my Primary Doctor put me on Ativan, side effects suck but it works good enough. He gave me the prescription for the 3 months (I live in Florida) & that was in June of 2016. Yes, it's lasted me over a year. I take 1.5mg to be able to leave my home. I take them maybe a max of 4 times a month. That's leaving my home once a week. (1.5mg once a week basically) I've made an appointment w/a therapist back in march but can't get in until September. I'm waiting! I don't have enough medication to last until my Therapist visit, unless I stop leaving my home for the next few months. That makes things worse if I do

will taking ativan and viagra together effect the viagra from working ## No, I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between these two medications. Learn more Ativan details here. Learn more Viagra details here. It's always wise to double check this information to be certain, though. Have they both been prescribed for you? ## Is it harmful to take half of a 25 mgm viagra and about an hour later take half of a 5 mgm lorazepam?

I had a doctor tell me once that Ativan is a short term med. No longer than 2 or 3 wks. Long use of the medicine can cause dementia/short term memory loss. At the time I was telling him that I had been on the Ativan, he asked the dosage, etc. I told him that I started it in 1994 and had been on and off of it to the present time which was 2004. That was ten yrs for the most part (I would stop taking them from time to time but never for very long}. By 2004 he had me taking 2mg tabs 4x daily. I felt like it was working well for me. I am bi-polar and it would keep me at a good level. Very seldom any severe ups and downs. He about passed out when I told him how much I was taking. He said I should be comatose with that dosage. Then he told me the damage could be dementia. Is this true??? ## T...

If I have been taking Ativan 2mg 4 times per day for 8 years and it is obviously lost it's affectiveness, would changing to Xanax 2mg 4 times a day be the next step? Valium does not help at all. (Take Ativan for PTSD) I've worked in the medical field for 20 years and was not aware that Xanax came in a 2mg pill......seems like a lot!) ## No, it probably wouldn't make a difference, there is no dose conversion between the Lorazepam in the Ativan and the Alprazolam in the Xanax, they are considered equivalent to each other. There is, however, a 3mg extended release Xanax available. From other posts that have been made here, it seems that a lot of people that have grown tolerant to their current dosage have had success switching to the extended release. Some in the same dosage an...

Dr states they are equal. 1 mg clonazapam is to 1 mg of Xanax . Totally different He stopped 2 mgs a day without any concern of withdrawal because he gave me 3 mg a day of clonazapam. Anxiety has doubled and it does not take effect as quick ## I've only taken 2 Klonopin in my life in an attempt to possibly switch over and I found that same near instant relief from anxiety without feeling weird like when I tried Ativan. It totally worked ## Ram man, As eddy stated most seeking relief from anxiety find clonazepam ( klonopin ) effective It WILL NOT produce the same sedative euphoria that Xanax and other traditional benzo's tend to.As such it's often used as a step down substitute for those dependent on Xanax . The dosage prescribed 1 mg. three times daily is appropriate and qua...

how strong is a ativan 0.5mg and what is for nreve or what ## Information I was able to gather states that Ativan is a powerful anxiolytic with a relatively high addictive potential. Ativan has all five intrinsic benzodiazepine effects: anxiolytic, amnesic, sedative/hypnotic, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant For more information about Ativan, please follow the link below... If you have any more questions or concerns, please post back and I will be happy to help you. ## I am told that adivan ``is like a muscle relaxer''. My favorite muscle relaxer is the COX2 viox; that stuff used to work well; these days I will take a celebrex; also this works well. I have used ativan for as a muscle relaxer before; my doc said it would be ok. I was getting a DAW 4 @1. That is 4 pills; 1 milli...

My friend was released from detox hospital. And stil has problems sleeping due to anxiety. Beth 602{edited for privacy} ## Hi bertha, Sorry to hear about what's going on with your friend's anxiety. The medication your inquiring about called Ativan (Lorazepam) is in fact used to relieve anxiety. It works by slowing activity in the brain to allow for relaxation. I don't know what types of reviews are out there for this medication, but I'd probably suggest playing it safe and going the natural route. Reason being is that this drug is addictive and based on your description, it sounds to me like your friend may still be recovering from addictive medications. Another trip to detox hospital doesn't seem like it would be in his or her best interest. Has your friend consider...

Are there any alternative meds to Ativan, that don't cause weakness? ## well it all depends on you brain and body chemistry, there are many drugs in the benzodiazipine family including:valium(diazepam),clodapin(clozaepam), librium, even an old drug called mebrobate I don't even know if it is still available, What are you takeing it for I take it as anxiety, if that is the case ask your doc. there are many non controled substances such as:buspar, paxil, zoloft, ect that may help you. GOOD LUCK ## I use Ativan for Migraine Head aches , It works better than the exspensive Nuronton , also it relieves anxiety so I dont need an antidepressant any more and it helps me sleep at night , I have Degenerative Discs Desiease and pain is an big issue with me . why should I care if it may be addi...

My doctor just retired. I saw my new "nurse practioner" tonight. I was getting refills on my prescriptions and she looked at my ativan and said no this isn't happening. She said ativan doesn't work and she will not be prescribing it for me after the next bottle. I have been on ativan for 12 years. It completely controls my anxiety. What do I do? Can she do this? ## Unfortunately, she can do it. It's extremely unethical though. She should, at least, provide you with an extensive titration/taper plan. I would try to find another doctor. One that will continue to provide you with lorazepam or slowly taper you off. Benzo withdrawal can be protracted and last indefinitely if not done properly. Even then some withdrawal symptoms can last for years. I wish you the best. I...

If Xanax and Ativan are both benzodiazapines, why did the Ativan work to relieve anxiety without causing depression but the Xanax didn't? ## It really depends on the person and how your body reacts to it. Just as an example, I'm fine with a low dose .5mg of Ativan, but if I take anything higher it makes me depressed and I feel very groggy for several days afterwards. However, there are other people that use it just fine without any problems. You really just have to figure out what works for you. Are there any other questions or comments? ## Thank you for the information. It was helpful. How long have you taken Ativan? I also experienced the mild depression when I took a bit extra. I hate drugs and don't have an addictive nature. However, I am a little afraid of getting off a...

I am struggling so bad to stay in control. In Sept 2012 I lost my mother to lung cancer (very sudden & quick), then her mom (my grandmother) died the very next day. I suffered a mental collapse a month later & was off work on a short term disability. Then the week of thanksgiving that same year I found out my brother had been raping his daughter(my niece) for years...and he was incarcerated. I went on to not be able to return to my job due to a very uncompassionate boss. Since all of this I had been seeing a psychiatrist & a counselor, until I lost my medical coverage. I decided to pull myself off of the ativan I was taking and fly solo. I returned to school as a 36 year old college student & just completed my 1st semester w/ a 3.83 gpa. I am trying so hard, but thru all...

I have been on Ativan for 25+ years name brand. I have no insurance and do not qualify for assistance. Does anyone know where I can get this at the best possible cost. It is now over $600 for 45 tablets. I have tried generic in the past, which did not work for me. Any suggestions on coming off or switching Rx's. I have tapered down to 1.5 from 3 mg per day. Still feel I need it to function normally. Help appreciated. ## Hi flowers, If you don't have insurance and are unable to qualify for any patient assistance programs, I would encourage you to look into Rx savings cards. MedsChat actually offers one that can save you anywhere from 15% to 75% off your prescription, potentially cutting the cost drastically. You can view more details about it on the following page: Rx Savings Car...

is ativan prescribed as a sleeping pill ## Ativan (Lorazepam) is used to treat anxiety disorders or anxiety associated with depression. It could also be prescribed for sleep disturbance, if you have trouble sleeping due to anxiety/worry, etc. You shouldn't have a problem obtaining a prescription for it if that's the case. For more information about this drug, please refer to the link below... If you have any more questions or concerns, please post back and I will be happy to help you. ## I take 1 mg of lorazepam a night for sleep. Originally I ask for something for anxiety when my mom died. I guess I am a naturally high-strung person but I got a great nights sleep which worked wonders for me.

What are my options if Xanax doesn't seem to work for me? ## Most people don't say that. There are some stronger Benzodiazepines but they work differently? ## I agree with Eddy. Xanax is usually touted as one of the stronger benzodiazepine options on the market, so it's quite uncommon to hear from patient's who don't notice it's effects at all. A few other options that might be worth considering in the same drug class are: Diazepam (Valium) Clonazepam (Klonopin) Lorazepam (Ativan) Benzonatate (Tessalon) You may also want to familiarize yourself with another manufacturer's version of Xanax or Alprazolam, since they can all effect each person differently, regardless of there being the same active ingredient. In my opinion, the things that make them most differe...

My pharmacy supposedly just renewed my Ativan presc. Unlike any Ativan I've seen. Pill is round, white w l,0 imprinted on one side, scored on other, flat & small. Please help I can't identify this anywhere. ## I just renewed my Ativan too, and was given the same thing, I don't know what it is I am taking it to another pharmacy to identify it. Of you find out let me know! Thank you, it is not working.

I want to know which is stronger. The Ativan or Xanax? Which one lasts the longest? I have really bad anxiety so I wanted to know which one is better to take? ## Xanax is stronger than Ativan, it is actually twice as strong. You only need a half a milligram of it to equal each 1mg of the Ativan. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and irritability. However, the only way to know which one will work best for you is by trying them. Is there anything else I can help with?

Ordered 2 mg Lorazepam, got Ativan small yellow pill. I used for sleep at night & they don't seem to work. What are they? ## Are there any markings on the tablets? Ativan is the name brand for Lorazepam, but I can't really confirm anything, without knowing more specifics. If you post back with this information, I will gladly check for you.

my patient tells me that Sandoz 0.5mg Ativan works for him and Watson Ativan 0.5mg does not. it makes him feel hazy. ## Hi, Joseph! What many people, even those in the medical profession aren't aware of, is that there are some differences between generic medications. The FDA actually allows them to fluctuate from the name brand in the amount of the active ingredient by as much as plus or minus 20%. (This is under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984, if you'd like to research it for reference.) The FDA considers that fluctuation amount to be therapeutically insignificant, and for most people it is. However, what happens is that generic manufacturers aren't required to measure against each other, only against the amount that was in the original name brand. Most people still never not...

What is considered a normal dose of Ativan? Which dose works best for what? Does it have a high risk for abuse? Are side effects frequently encountered? Any difficulty in getting scripts filled? ## There is no normal dose, per se, it really depends on the person being treated and the severity of the condition being treated. Yes, the FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and abused. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, and irritability. It is a controlled substance, so most pharmacies will strictly regulate how often you can get in filled, and they watch the dosage you are taking. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I would like to know more about Ativan if anyone has additional information to share.
