My friend gave me hydrocodone from1992.. Am I going to be ok ## Hello, Steph! How are you? If it's tablets, they don't get dangerous once expired, they just loses effectiveness. The best thing to do would be to dispose of them, however, if you did take any, they may not relieve your pain much and could cause some nausea and dizziness, but that's about it. It's never a good idea, though, to take any medication that hasn't been prescribed for you and it is also illegal to share medications in this manner. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## When does Augmentin (pill)...

I have liquid vicodin that expired 5 months ago. Will it be ok for me to still take it? It's 7.5mg per 15 ml. ## It would be best not to do so, liquid medications can actually 'go sour', so to speak, once expired and it could make you sick, if you take. If you still need such a medication, it would be best to see your doctor for a new supply. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. I have been prescribed tramadol 50 mg and hydrocodone 5-325 for migraines. Tramadol is always my first go to and if that doesn't work then I try the hydro. However, the tramadol is expired and has been for a year (I am in college and dealt with moving etc so don't have a doctor at the moment to get a new prescription that is unexpired.) I am literally having one of the worst migraines of my life which its so bad that the pain woke me up even after taking an (expired) tramadol. I took the expired tramadol at 10pm and it is now 2 am. Would it be okay for me to now take a hydrocodone after 4 hours (usually I wait 6 but I believe the tramadol did not work because it's expired?) Normally I would just go to the ER when it is this bad however I am taking summer courses and have an ...

I have Hydrocodone + Acetaminophen 10/325 that was prescribed for my back pain which expired a year ago. Is it still effective and how long does it keep its potency? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? Medications do lose effectiveness over time, that's why they carry an expiration date, that's the longest the manufacturer can be sure it will maintain maximum efficacy under normal storage conditions. There's no definitive information that I can give you on how long it retains its full potency, once expired, because that depends on many factors, such as the storage conditions. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. How long is this medication good after their expiration date. I don't take often so I have some over a year old. ## Hello, Based on my research, U.S. prescription medications are required to have a mandatory expiration date of 1 year from the date the prescription is filled. After a year is up, the medication should still be safe but it will start to lose its potency and can no longer be as effective. I injured myself in 2011 and was given hydrocodone/apap 5mg/500mg. I reaggrivated the injury and was given a new script for them but I have no insurance to cover the cost. I am wondering if I take them if they will still be effective. ## Hello, Dove! How are you? Medications tend to lose effectiveness over time, which is why they have an expiration date, that is the maximum time the company can guarantee full efficacy under the average storage conditions. As they are exposed to heat, light and moisture, they start to degrade, so no, being several years past the expiration date, it would really be best to just dispose of them. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipa...

I found Hydrocodone 7.5 mg and it's from 1997 is it dangerous to take because of the Tylonel or Ibuprofen in it?? ## Hi Jb, While there may be a lot of conflicting information around the topic of expired medication, a Harvard Medical School family health article states that, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. I don't know whether or not the drug you have happens to be one of these drugs from t...

What is the shelf life of these pills? 12, 18, 24 Months?
