I believe you are referring to the medication Dilaudid which is a very strong narcotic pain killer. So the doctor is taking your son off it cold turkey? If he has been taking it for awhile he might go through a brief but very intense withdrawal period lasting up to several days. He will definitely need you to be there for him during that time. There is a lot more information available about this drug on the page for Dilaudid ... ...

Having surgery in near future, but liver enzymes are high, should this medication be ruled out? what are my options? Should i postpone this surgery? I found this problem out after surgery was scheduled. ## Dilaudid (hydromorphone) is metabolized (broken down) by the liver, but I haven't come across any clear congruent information stating whether or not it causes liver damage or potentiates an existing condition like that which you mentioned. For more specific information though, I would suggest consulting with your doctor, surgeon, and/or pharmacist for guidance based on your health status and current m... ...
