Cutting Capsules In Half

Does cutting metoprolol er 100 in half at the score have any effect on the extended release? ## To my understanding, cutting an extended release pill in half does have an effect on its time-release properties. I honestly don't know if this only pertains to "capsules" rather than "tablets", since they are different forms in and of themselves. Often times the score line does indicate that the pill can be divided in half, but unless your doctor gives you the ok, I would suggest playing it safe in either case. You may even want to talk to your doctor about lowering your dosage to 50mg Metoprolol succinate extended-release tablets. This way you can always take another dose without worrying about messing up the time-release properties. I hope this helps! Does anyone else k...

Im wondering why my Triamterene tablet that I Have to break In half Is not As effective as the capsule I use to take? I am not cutting it just breaking it like they told me to. My pharmacy cant get the capsules and they didnt know the answer as to why its not as effective. Just wondering if anyone can help. Thanks alot, V ## I'm here in Texas and I'm having the same issue. I used to take the small green tablet 37.5mg. and when that became unavailable they switched me to the higher dosage, breaking it in half. It seems that I have to take 3/4 of the pill in order to prevent fluid retention. I am now unable to even get the 75mg tabs to break in half. I've been without medication since Sunday... Not good. No one can tell me what is going on with the meds. ## Neecie, I heard the...

I was taking 90 mg cap x 1 a day. Was switched to 45 mg 2 x a day. Can I just take unused 90 mg & separate evenly ? Even though time release type the spit can't be that much different in quantity. Half is half. Saw earlier that to dangerous to split but don't understand why it would be, especially if you're only actually taking a total of 90 mg a day. Thanks for any thoughts on this ## Because cutting, crushing or splitting time released tablets or capsules could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once. In this case, it may not all be evenly spread throughout and the outer coating could actually be vital to the time released mechanism. No, I understand that in your case, it may not make as big of a difference, since you were taking 90mgs at once, but doing s...

Hydrocodone comes in 5, 7.5 & 10 mg hydrocodone with 325 tylenol in each tablet. The higher doses are usually every 4-6 hrs. ## BL is correct, that is not a high dose. However, the FDA does warn that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as co...

My 15 year old son has been on some form of stimulants since he was in the 1st grade. He is currently on 70 mg vyvanse. We are trying to get him off of it, but he is having really bad withdrawals so much that it interfering with his school work. Should we try giving him 30mg or is that too low a dose after 50. Any suggestions? ## Tapper him down, if you have the capsules an hes on 70mg's, start by cutting the capsule in half and power the powder on the table, now split it into 7ths and give him 6/7ths of it for 3 days then after those 3 days give him 5/7ths and etc... ## Have you consulted his doctor for assistance? After being on these types of medications for such a long period of time, a slow taper is definitely the safest and easiest way to go. However, it is going to be very di...

I have received an e-mail from Teva UK, who produce verapamil capsules under the Univer name, that production has been interupted. They hope to resume in the fourth quarter of 2016. As I need two 180mg slow release tablets per day I queried my GP for a replacement. I have started on Vera-Til SR 120mg tablets from Tillomed. As I need 180mg I take one and a half tabs. Not so convenient but so far no side effects. ## It is risky to be cutting those tablets, since they are time released, it could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once, which may result in overdose. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?
