I've been advised to stop taking blood thinners pre-op and want to know if any of my meds or vitamin supplements are blood thinners? ## Hi Leonard, Can you please take a moment to list the specific medications and vitamins or supplements that you're currently on? There are many substances (both prescription and OTC/natural) that could fall under this category; so to narrow it down based on your unique situation would make providing an answer much easier. Hope all is well! ## I’d like to try turmeric tea. They say you can’t drink it if you're on blood thinners. Is Coversyl a blood thinner? I take 8 mg daily. ## I take turmeric daily for arthritis and general inflammation. I had never heard of it re: surgery, but since I plan on surgery, I need to consider it now. ...

Looking to find out the best medicine to treat schizophrenia. ## Hello, Valerie! How are you? There is really no 'best medicine' so to speak. It depends on the person and what works for them. Not all medications work for everyone that tries them, which is why they are usually several options to try in any given treatment category. For example, I have high blood pressure and while the 'best' medication for many people is Metoprolol, it made me very sick and I had to stop taking it. It also didn't significantly lower my blood pressure. That said, what medications have you tried? Some people do better with an older medication, such as Risperdal, though as reported by the FDA, it can cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, somnolence and weight gain. But others ha...

Is toprimate and gabapentin in the same category ## Hello, Christa! How are you? Yes, they are both classified by the FDA as anticonvulsants, though the Topiramate usually treats more types of seizures than the Gabapentin and the latter is also more commonly used to treat certain types of nerve pain and mood disorders. Typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Has one of them been prescribed for you?

i take 0.5 milligrams of klonopin a day how would i wean off this drug ## CALL A PHARMACY! . . .can I assume that you are not under doctor's care? This category of medicine has serious withdrawal symptons. As with some tapering, the pills are so small and hard to cut. If I were you I would cut into 4 pieces, mix with something like applesauce. Take 1/2 approx for approx 3 days, then take 1/4 for apprx 3 days. Stop and see if you are experiencing any bad withdrawal reactions. (. . .in addition, this drup impaired my motor skills and immediately, under doctor's care, changed to something else.) Check without it for apprx 2-3 days; if you're okay, you're weaned. If you are switching from one drug to another in the same class, that won't be hard. You're right to chec...

I used Canex V during my fertile period for thrush infection due to antibiotics. Is it possible to still be able to get pregnant while you are using it. ## From what I could gather, Canex V contains the active ingredient Clotrimazole, which is an anti-fungal medication. So yes, it is normally used to treat things such as yeast/thrush infections. Regarding it's use during pregnancy, Clotrimazole topical has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. In which case animals who were given high doses intravaginally have not revealed evidence of teratogenicity. However, high "oral" doses resulted in embryotoxicity and maternal toxicity. In clinical trials involving women in their second and third trimester, Clotrimazole treatment of vaginal candidiasis was not associated wi...

I am 12weeks pregnant and 2days ago I started having really bad tooth ache my GP said it could be some kind of infection and gave me Betamox 500mg to take. Is it safe to take this so early in my pregnancy? ## Based on my research, Betamox (amoxicillin) has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. "Animal studies using 10 times the human dose have failed to reveal any evidence of teratogenicity. Although no controlled data in human pregnancy are available, literature reports of adverse fetal effects are lacking. Amoxicillin is only recommended during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk." For more personalized advice however, I'd still encourage you to discuss this with your doctor; who may have also gone through this with other past patients. I hope this helps!

I am teaching a medication administration course and need a list of schedule G drugs and rthe reason they would be listed as such ## I cannot find a complete list, most of my information is for the U.S. and they do not use the same schedule for drugs. However, the schedule G drugs are those that are available strictly by prescription. This is due to the possibility of side effects and the health dangers they may present if used improperly. Some that are included in this category are amphetamines and barbituates. What country are you in? That may help me find you the proper information. ## Thanks for the reply, We are in Canada and I do realize that these are a restricted drug but I am not sure if they are narcotics or if they are special drugs that are being used almost experimentally o...
