Cardio Aspirin

I have 3 stents (seven years) and a heart valve replacement (5 years) but have thin blood, which can cause nose bleeds and prolonged bleeding after cuts or injuries. So my cardiologist put me on Aspirin rather than Warfarin to help prevent blood clots/stroke. Since then I have had only a handful of minor heart issues (palpitations but no chest pain, heart attack or stroke). My cardiologist recently retired and my new specialist has insisted that I need to replace the Aspirin with a combination of Xarelto and Clopidogrel. I fear if i make this change I will have serious side effects, including serious nose bleeds (I once spent 3 days in hospital with a nose bleed). If I choose to stay on the Asprin will I be at serious risk of having a stroke? ## You could ask them to check your clotting...

I take losartan/hctz 50-12.5 mg, atorvastatin 10 mg and low dose aspirin in the evening before bed. Is it ok to take these together? ## It is okay to do so, as long as your doctor has told you take them all. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Are these the only medications you are currently taking? ## Went from lisonpril to losartin My cardiologist has me on half a pill I have bradycardia but had that as long as I can remember , anyway new neurologist dr told me to take the whole 25 I did for 4 days it wasn't pleasant screwed me up for a few days so I back to the 12.5 listen to your cardiologist!!!!! I take since 8 month aspirini cardio 100mg, now I got an stomach ulcer. Is salospir less affecting the stomach. Please let me know the sideeffects. thanks, usha ## No, it isn't likely that Salospir would be any better for your stomach. It contains Aspirin and Caffeine, which will make it even more acidic and harsh. What you'll likely want to look for is an Aspirin product that's listed as being enteric coated, so it doesn't cause as much stomach erosion. Additionally, you should look closely at your diet, because many things in it, such as spicy foods, can cause stomach damage, as well. What are you using to treat the ulcer? I had a heart attack and DES stent and was told to take Plavix, Metoprolol, Lipitor, and aspirin. I quit taking Plavix after 6 months even though my cardiologist wanted me to take it for 2 years. I also quit taking the Metoprolol, Lipitor, and aspirin. Well that was 9 months ago when I stopped taking everything and I feel great. My doctor says I was lucky that nothing happened. Lucky? Luck has nothing to do with it! I became a vegan and follow the Ornish diet strictly. I take vegan Omega3's. I also take coq10, a multi-vitamin, and drink unprocessed cocoa. I exercise. My LDL without drugs is 70. My bp is 105/70. To hell with Plavix. ## Actually, the reason your doctor said you were lucky is due to the rebound effects that suddenly stopping such medications can cause. These effects ca...

My husband was put on Eliquis after he was diagnosed as having a-fib. The DR stopped his blood pressure medication and 81mg aspirin. He went through cardio aversion to get his heart back in rhythm...as been in rhythm since Dec. However, he is suffering from the tiredness, shortness of breath, gout attacks, ankle swelling and abdominal swelling that I have been reading about. He also has a very productive cough that has been going on since late December. He has been on numerous antibiotics, cough syrups, allergy pills, and even something for reflux. After reading some of these posts about Eliquis, could it be responsible for his chronic coughing? ## Hello, Ann! How are you and your husband doing? Yes, according to FDA reports it has been known to cause coughing as a side effects. It may ...

After 4 months of being on xarelto for pulmonary embolism was taken off the med due to bleeding. I was also taken off my normal 81 mg. aspirin which I take for heart disease. Neither my hemotologist, cardiologist, nor my gastro doc, (Crohn's disease ) have suggested I take an X-ray to determine if the clots are still there. This is very vexing. I am 67, athletic, trim and eat healthy. Anyone else experience similar situations? ## @JD, Sorry to hear about the bleeding on Xarelto. I did notice that bleeding was listed as a general side effect on NIH.gov, but I suppose that can be a pretty common occurrence with these types of medications in general. All I can say is that if it were me facing a similar situation, I'd put an emphasis on getting that X-ray done for the sole sake of h...

My regular MD.Mic doctor has prescribed Amlodipino 5mg. However a cardiologist has told me stop taking this drug, and had prescribed a drug called Micardis. I thought chloresterol was no longer considered a problem? Cardiologist also prescribed Atvastatin? Baby aspirin too, I read that Aspirin is no longer approved by the American Medical Association. Who knows what to believe. As someone who has never taken drugs and I'm 80 yrs.old,I don't know what to believe! ## Hello, Carol! How are you? Micardis contains the active ingredient Telmisartan, it is used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, and increased urination. As to the cholesterol, it depends on ho...

I have been having severe lower abdomen pain and my digestive Dr wants to do a colonoscopy ASAP, but he said he can't till my Cardiologist Dr will be willing to stop Effient and 81mg Aspirin for a few days before. My question is, is it ok to stop for a few days? I had a stent put in on Dec 1st, 2016. ## While this is commonly done, before some medical test, only your cardiologist can decide if it is safe for you to do so, since there is a risk of rebound clotting, and elevated blood pressure, if you suddenly stop the Effient. Have you consulted your cardiologist, yet? Has your doctor done any other tests to see what is causing your pain, such as an MRI, or ultrasound? Are you on any other medications?

HI,my dad is taking ECOSPRIN AV 75 for past 2 weeks on his cardiologist's advice. He has also been taking Aztor for the past year and a half, prescribed by another doctor. Both are taken at night. Can these meds be taken together, as both contain 10mg atorvastatin. Is this considered a high dose and is it necessary? What is aspirin's role here? ## The Aspirin is generally used for its blood thinning properties, it can help prevent heart attacks and strokes. Are both of his doctors aware of all the medications he is taking? If they are not, he may be doubling up needlessly. However, if they know about all of his medications, they may have decided that he needs the higher dosage. Atorvastatin, which is used to help lower cholesterol, can also be used to help prevent stroke. ## I H...

I have spinal STENOSIS and need Darvocet. I cannot take aspirin or Non Inflammatories. I have a script from my doctor. ## I'm sorry, but Darvocet has been removed from the market in the U.S., Canada and most other countries. It contained the active ingredients Propoxyphene and Acetaminophen and the Propoxyphene was found to be cardiotoxic. Learn more: I'm very surprised that your doctor wasn't aware of this information. There are, however, other narcotic analgesics on the market that contain Acetaminophen, rather than NSAIDs, so you may want to discuss using on of them with your doctor. My cardiologist wants to put me on the drug eliquis 5mg 2x daily for AFIB, plus the drug metoprolol ER succinate for HBP. I am 84 yrs young and with few exceptions have been prescribed drugs (example- anti-biotics) in my lifetime - not even an aspirin, so I am quite concerned about these drugs especially since I've read so many negative verging on horror stories regarding Eliquis. ## I've been on Eliquis for over a year for DVT & PE. I can't say enough good things about it. I'm sure your doctor is good & has checked your kidney function before determining your dose. I experienced headaches and upset stomach when I first started taking it, but they were mild & d...

pill. blood thinning medication ## I ned to know how is grendis work, cause my father use grendis for thinning his bloods, he got a cardiovasculer problem and his doctor give him grendis ## Sorry, this isn't available in the US and I cannot find any information on it. ## Grendis works in 3 ways, 1 just like aspirin, it inhibit thromboxane A2 thereby inhibiting aggregation or clumping of platelet, 2; just like cilostazol, it inhibit phosphodiesterase, thereby preserving cyclic AMP which is an anti aggregant also. I also stimulate human nitric oxide in human neutrofil thereby increasing it's antiinflammatory, vasodilatory and anti-aggregant effect. I can't believe they took darvocet off the market because people abuse and over used it. Even aspirin is toxic work over use!!! The drs did not force you to take them around the clock!!! ## Hi! I'm sorry you're upset! However, that's not actually why Darvocet was removed from the market. It contained Propoxyphene and Acetaminophen and it was found that Propoxyphene and its relatives were cardio toxic. Compared to its very low level of efficacy, it was was deemed that the benefits were not greater than the possible risk and that's why it was pulled from the market. My husband takes 50mg Metoprolol succinate 1 x daily at bedtime for V-tach (no heart disease) along with 20mg lisinopril and 1 baby aspirin. He recently got an Apple watch and was alerted that his heart rate while he slept had dropped to 37 and 34. We recently moved, we have to wait for an appt to get in with a new doctor and then have to be referred to the cardiologist here for a check up as it has been about a year since he last saw the cardiologist (that is when the meoprolol was increased to 50mg) and was told to come back in a year. Is the low heart rate at night an urgent concern or is it ok to wait until he can get in with the new doctor. Or should he cut the tablet in half? My mother is currently on 20mg of Omesar daily. She is suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and was successfully self managed on 300mgs of aspirin daily. Following a carotid enterectomy she was advised to stop taking aspirin and take paracetamol instead. This was not effective in controlling her painful symptoms and she started to take 400mgs of Ibuprofen daily, which she found effective. However her cardiologist told her she couldn't take this medication in conjunction with her present medication. I would like to know is there a specific reason it is contraindicated?
