I have an enlarged vein that goes thru the muscle of my foot which has caused inflammation in this muscle and it hurts constantly. I had ankle surgery yesterday and they put 2 plates and 10 screws in my ankle. I was prescribed Tylenol 3s and ibuprofen 800mg when I went to the urgent care the day before surgery and was prescribed Valium 5mg and Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 10-325 after surgery. I just had eye surgery and was given Norco (4x a day) and Motrin (3x a day) to take for pain, can I take them at the same time or do I need to space them out? ## Hi Chris, Hope you're recovering well from the surgery. From what I could gather, there are no drug interactions listed between Norco (acetaminophen + hydrocodone) and Motrin (ibuprofen). So I don't see why it wouldn't be ok to take them both together if that's what you need to do in order to achieve adequate pain relief. Also as long as it's the same doctor who prescribed both, I think that he/she would've informed you up front of any possible risks involved with doing so if there really were serious consequences to be had. And to my knowledge, Hydrocodone + Ibuprofen are also commonly prescribed together under the following brand names: Ibudone, Vicoprofen, Reprexain. So I think it's safe to say that there shouldn't be any problems with taking them both, outside of their own individual side effects. However, usually your doctor wants to be informed if you intend on taking anything else along with what he/she prescribed in order to have your back about any concerns with dosing, side effects, or other complications that may or may not arise (knock on wood). But based on my own research, there are drug interactions between the prescription muscle relaxer known as Tizanidine and Hydrocodone. Apparently if you take them together it can potentiate certain side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness, and impaired cognitive abilities. However, with proper dosing and administration your doctor may be able to help you decrease these risks.
