I asked if my doseage shpuld be reduced or if I should just stop taking it. He told me that I'm on such a low dose that I shall be fine to just stop abruptly. The next day I stopped and my heart rate wad resting at 115 all day. By 6pm my bp was spiking at 170/100 and a heart rate of 130. Now I'm 23 not a doctor and meds scare the hell outta me so I didn't know what to do considering it was a Saturday and I had no way of getting in touch with my doctor. I have been taking half a tab of Seloken XL 25mg each morning for the last 3 years for high bp and my bp remains 130/90. Do I need to continue taking this or should I consult my doc for a change of medicine? ## Seloken XL contains the active ingredient Metoprolol in a time release formulation, it is most commonly used to help control high blood pressure. You definitely need to keep taking the medication and consult with your doctor regarding any changes. That is still not a normal blood pressure reading and stopping this medication abruptly can cause severe health problems, such as sudden blood pressure spikes, cardiac problems and heart attacks.

I have been taking lisinopril 20mg - 2x for a long time. Earlier this year I was given carvedilol 6.25mg - 2x along with above. Shortly thereafter, I reduced the carvedilol ato 1x. A month ago my systolic bp rose. Dr. said to increase carvedilol by taking 2 a day. Upon doing this I started experiencing a rash and itching all over. Dr. then took me off this and prescribed metoprolol tar 25mg 2x with the same reaction of rash and itching and no improvement in bp. Why all the sudden reaction to these drugs? ## Hello, John! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're having. Both the Carvedilol and Metoprolol are classified by the FDA as beta blockers, so my best guess is that you may have developed an allergy to this medication category. This happens frequently, such as when s...

Ptis 93 years old ## Hello, Anna! How are you? It would be best to consult the patient's doctor to let such decisions be made as to what else they can prescribe. There are various factors that need to be taken under consideration for what can be prescribed. What other medications does the patient take? What are their health conditions and overall health status?

Since mid Feb. 2015, I have tapered my BP meds (candesartan-16mg from 32mg; HCT-dropped from 25mg; Amlodipine-5mg) on my PCP's advice as it appears to be increasing my blood creatinine levels. Although my BP has remained normal (117/68 p66) since and indeed gone down, I continue to experience intermittent/sporadic 'burns/tingles' on various parts of my left arm (e.g., outside elbow, fingers, triceps, above wrist, etc.) and upper shoulder. Also, sometimes, I feel activity/heat in my left chest area. My PCP and cardiologist say that as long as my BP is okay and I am able to sustain my workouts that I should not worry. My weekly exercise routine is; 3 hours of heavy weightlifting, 2 hours of singles tennis, 2 hours-biking, and 80 minutes on an elliptical. My heart does not feel...

Have 46 BPM at rest; now cut 25mg Metoprolo tablet in half to lower dose as prescribed by cardio doc. had ascending aortic aneurysm repair, and aortic valve replaced (bovine) in 2003. What is going on here? I do exercise quite regularly, but 46 kinds of has me concerned, even though I am still able to exercise. Any answers, thanks. ## Well, there is really no way for anyone to say what's going on from just the limited information in your post. There are several issues that could cause this and only your doctor is going to be able to help you get to the root of the problem. The Metoprolol might be working too well and making your heart beat to slowly. I've had that happen with several medications myself. How long have you been on the lowered dosage? Has there been any improvement?
