My doctor prescribed Atorva 40 mg tablets first for 1 month when my cholesterol was 388 MG/DL. When cholestorol, hdl & ldl levels became normal, he prescribed for 3 moths; again now after lipid test which is normal he has prescribed the same dose for 3 more months. Is it needed? Why not 20 mg or 10 mg when lipid is normal? ## My doctor prescribed Atorva 40 mg tablets first for 1 month when my cholesterol was 388 MG/DL. My father age 52 years has been taking stamlo beta for more than 10 years now. he has been taking even Atorva 10 mg for cholesterol (230 approx) from 10 years. off late, he has been feeling that he has difficulty in passing urine in the morning due to the flow; also he doesnt have immunity like before. doctor had prescribed 1 tablet of stamlo beta and atorva everyday but he does not take it regularly. he goes for morning walk also but irregular though. is it OK to have atorva and stamlo beta together? whether Slow flow of urine and loss in immunity power are side effects of any of the tablets mentioned above. note: he does not have sugar or any other issue except of blood pressure and cholestrol. ## Hello, Deepika! 56 YO Male, taking this after a stint. I also take Atenolol, 100mg daily, Losartan 100mg 2x daily and Clopidogrel 75mg daily. Since the stint and the new meds, I am constantly dizzy. I do not believe the stint has anything to do with it, since it saved my life. I have read blogs where people feel uncomfortable with this "metal thing" in their body. I have no such feelings, I am eternally grateful for the "metal thing" and the miracle surgeons that put it there and saved my life. But back to my dizziness. Any suggestions?? ## It's difficult to say, because all of the medications you're taking have the potential to cause dizziness and it's possible that it's compounded due to that fact. The blood pressure/cardiac medications, Atenolol and Losartan also have...

Hi, I came off atorvastatin cold turkey 15 days ago. 12 days ago I started with this immense pressure in my head and face. It only goes away when I lay down and I've not got blurred vision. Is this a withdrawel effect? Thanks. ## Hello, Louise! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. It would be best to consult your doctor. When you stop such a medication cold turkey, there is a risk of developing blockages or clots, which could be causing the problem. It's best to have this checked out for your safety. The FDA lists the other possible withdrawal effects as including nausea, dizziness, headache and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

What are the side effects of taking Stamio Beta, Asp-Atorva and Telmisartan-IP everyday? ## My Doctor has advised me to take one Asp Atorva 75 tablet every night after dinner. Is it safe? The doctor is treating me for my diabates and BP. ## Well, there are risks associated with taking any medication, especially for long periods of time, but in reality, the risks of not taking them and letting such conditions continue out of control are far, far greater than any possible dangers from the drugs to treat them. There is a small risk of these types of medications causing liver or kidney damage, but uncontrolled high blood pressure can eventually cause a heart attack, stroke or congestive heart failure. So, in truth, safety is relative. Medications aren't necessarily safe, but the medical...

I currently take atorvastatin for my cholesterol. Is it safe to start taking Turmeric for the inflammation of my arthritis? Is atorvastatin a blood thinner? ## No it is not a blood thinner, it is used solely to help lower cholesterol levels, although some recent studies have shown that elevated cholesterol levels are not as dangerous as we think, but many disagree, thus the jury is still out on that, so to speak. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. As to taking it with Turmeric, I haven't been able to find any studies on that, but since it is used in many foods, I'd think the FDA would warn you if there was a problem. However, it is always best to double check with your doctor to be sure. It is also be...

My mother is taking Atorvastatin but she keeps going to the bathroom a lot. So, we were wondering if this is a water pill? ## No, this is a statin medication that is used to help lower cholesterol. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle ache. However, frequent urination is a possible side effect of most medications, one can never know how any given medication will affect anyone that takes it. How often is she going? Is she on any other medications? ## Actually there are many reports that it will make your urine patterns irregular.

Can i take ardosons with atorvastatina together ## Hello, Rolando! How are you? I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between the Mannitol in Ardosons and the Atorvastatin, but it's always best to double check this information to be safe. Atorvastatin may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Has your doctor prescribed both?

Since last week I am going through Arrhythmia (irregular Heart bits - skipping 10 - 12 bits / min out of 80 -90 bits with Blood pressure 130/90 hg/mm) Is it due to the side effect of the following tablets I am taking daily as per the prescription? 1. I recently received a bottle of Atorvastatin from my pharmacy and it wreaks of the smell of alcohol. I thought it might be the medicine bottle so I put them in a different bottle and they still smell awful. I can also taste the alcohol. I take other meds and I do not taste or smell that anywhere else. I brought it back to the pharmacy and the pharmacist said he couldn't smell anything. I have since had others smell the medicine and they also smell that strong odor of alcohol. Either the pharmacist was lying to me or he had no sense of smell. I would say at least 20 people here at my home have smelled my atorvastatin and they all say they smell alcohol like the kind used for cleansing the skin before a shot. This batch was from Sandoz. 80mg Date filled 11/22/14 I cut them in half to ...

I cannot swallow pills. The instructions for taking Atorvastatin says do not crush or chew. Should I continue to take it this way? ## @flatball, From what I could gather, Atorvastatin only comes in tablet form, whereas you may just have to find a way to adhere to those instructions unless your doctor suggests otherwise. Another thought is to ask your doctor if dissolving the tablets in water would be an option as well? And lastly, if none of the above is suitable for your needs, then perhaps it would be best to find another alternative to Atorvastatin that comes in different dosage forms and without restrictions as to how it can be administered. A few medication names that might be worth considering in the same drug class of statins are: Simvastatin, Rosuvastatin, and Pravastatin - howe...
