What is the recommend Amoxicillin dosage for a 6 yr old who is 46 lbs? My son is 6 yrs old and has a bad ear infection in one ear. Doctor gave him 500 mg of Amoxicillin 2 times/day, 2 teaspoon (10mg). He weighs 46 lbs. I just think it seems like a lot for his age. Please let me know if it's ok? This is supposed to be divided up into two or three doses and is generally prescribed for about 10 days. Hi. My 2 and a half year old son was prescribed amoxicillin by a doctor at the hospital. I know he said to give it 3 times a day but he never stated whether to give 2.5ml or 5ml. It's got 250mg/5ml on the box. However, according to the MayoClinic, "if the child/infant is older than 3 months of age & weighing less than 40 kg (88lbs), the dose is then based on body weight and must be determined by the prescribing doctor....

My daughter is complaining her ear hurts and it is the holidays so the doctors are closed. I have amoxicillin 250 mg that was prescribed to my 2 year old.
