son is 13 months old and 22 lbs he is to take 400 mg /5ml susp 100ml of amox. 1 teaspoon 2xs a day for ear infection is this the correct dosage? ## Hi Jennifer, From what I can find, the usual dose for a child greater than 3 months old (with a mild/moderate ear infection) is (25 mg/kg) per day in divided doses every 12 hours- or (20 mg/kg) per day in divided doses every 8 hours. Is 1 teaspoon twice a day of 400 mg Amoxicillin suspension what your doctor prescribed? If so, I don't see why it wouldn't be correct. Thank you! ## Hi Inna, According to an article I found on the site for Livestrong, kids between the ages of 2 months and 6 years old are usually given 80 to 90 mgs of amoxicillin per kilogram of body weight per day. This is supposed to be divided up into two or three doses and is generally prescribed for about 10 days. How much amoxicillin is safe for a 5 year old at 38 lbs? ## Hi indi, According to the MayoClinic, (if you're intending on using amoxicillin for a typical bacterial infection), the dose for children older than 3 months of age, weighing less than 88lbs is based on body weight and "must be determined by your doctor". However, they go on to note that the "usual" dose is anywhere from 20 to 45mg per 2.2lbs of body weight (per day); to be divided and administered every 8 to 12 hours. You could try to do the math on that in order to get a rough estimate - But ideally, like they said, you should discuss these details with your doctor just to be on the safe side. Hope this helps! ...

I have 500mg Amoxicillin capsules for an ear infection and they are pink and blue. Last time I had an ear infection the capsules were red and yellow. I'm wondering if these were a different dosage, its been a few years but I believe they were slightly smaller. I'm hoping the ones I have now are a higher dose because it took a 4 week course to clear it up last time, and now I have a 2 month old daughter and have to stick cotton balls in my ears when she cries or I black out for a second from the pain. Last time my ear drum ruptured, I'm really hoping I've caught this early enough to prevent that happening because that kind of pain was atleast 100x worse than labor. ## Based on the colors which you are describing for the capsules it sounds like you have the Amoxil brand of... ...

My little boy was given amoxilin for ear infection and this is his dosage......600/5ml.....he should take 10 mls twice a day for 10 days.....does that sound about right? ## Hello, Marcy! How are you? At that age, it is dosed according to weight, which for an ear infection is 30mgs per kg per day, so that would be 2,100mgs a day. Usually, it's recommended not to exceed 1,000mgs a dose, but if this is 600mgs per teaspoon, that is likely the closest they can get, without under dosing him, since they have to be sure the infection is eradicated. Please double check with the doctor though, to make sure that the dosage is correct. Is there anything else I can help with? ...

9 Year old was at dr today for stomach flu. Called in rx to pharmacy. When I arrived home now I see it says 4pills 1 time daily so that would be 2000 mg at once for 10 days.......is that safe ? ## Hello, Kathy! How is your son doing? Why was it prescribed for flu? Antibiotics are only effective at treating bacterial infections, as listed by the FDA, they will not treat the flu, which is caused by a virus. Unless he has developed some type of infection, then it isn't appropriate. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. As to the dosage, that's not too much in a day, though it may cause more side effects than lower dosages, but it is also usually split up and taken 2 to 3 times daily. Have you double c... ...

Just a little background I'm a 17 year old thats 131 pounds and a pretty nice down to earth guy. Two days ago I went to the doctor for ear pain, it turns out my ear was swollen and preventing drainage, I was prescribed prednisone (2 20mg tablets each morning, 5 days), along with amoxicillin (2 500mg tablets)and antibacterial ear drops. I took my first dosage this morning about 10 o'clock, my mom called me to ask me how I was doing at around 1 I noticed I was extremely sassy and agitated talking to her but aft that was over things went back to normal.
