I had a sinus infection a few months ago and my doctor prescribed amoxicillin. Today I noticed the signs of a cold sore coming. Could I take the rest of my amoxicillin to get rid of it? ## Unfortunately, cold sores are caused by a virus, so an antibiotic will not help treat or prevent them. However, you could ask your doctor about taking Acyclovir, which is approved by the FDA to help prevent them. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi, I'm getting lipliner tattoo and would like to know if I take Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium 875mg will prevent me from getting cold sores? My doctor said some people may not be allergic to the amoxicillin but to the capsule it is put in, as these are made cheap with added 'E; numbers. I had swollen lips and tonge, short of breath when I took them and thought I was allergic to penicillin, after what my doctor said, I tried amoxicillin again, I took it out of the capsules and added the powder to a drop of fruit juice and guess what I had no reaction whatsoever to amoxicillin. Why dont they use veggie capsules, instead of these cheap capsules with toxic 'E' numbers added to them? ## When you experienced these side effects, did you go back to the doctor? What did they do to help you? ## I took amoxicillin clavulanate 875mg for three days and it made me very sick to my stomach. I have been off it for 24 hours. How l...

Hello, I recently went to the dentist due to tooth pain in one of my wisdom teeth. after finding out that I had a tooth infection i was prescribed 10 days worth of amoxicillin, having finished this yesterday I still have tooth pain but, a considerably less amount of pain. I'm wanting to know if this means that the tooth will have to be extracted? Also, i have two 875mg tabs of amoxicillin for an infection in September should i take this in the hopes to still get rid of the infection and or to keep myself on the antibiotic so that my infection doesn't grow resistant to it. Tomorrow is Sunday so I wont be able to contact my dentist until Monday or possibly Tuesday if he celebrates president day. ## An antibiotic only helps eradicate the bacteria that causes an infection, it does n...

Hello, I (adult) was prescribed 875MG tablets of AMOX/CLAV - 1 tablet 2x a day for strep throat over a month ago but I am now better. My daughter who is 7 weighs 45 pounds has strep now and I have about 18 Augmenton pills left over. What is the dosage for her age? She has had to take pills in the past and I was going to break them up for the correct dosage but i'm not sure what that is. Her insurance does not kick in until the 1st of the month so if it possible just to give her my leftover meds it would save me a ton of money that I don't really have. If it is not possible then I would of course take her into the Dr. ## Hello, Beth! How is your daughter? No, it is never a good idea to try to dose a child with something that was prescribed for an adult. She may not even have an i...

Hi. So in efforts to get pregnant my husband and i have increased sexual activity. I started noticing irritation when I urinated and thought it was a uti. Yesterday when the irritation increased after urinating into more of a bv situation, I took some Metronidazole pills I had already. Problem is I only had 3 tabs, so I took those every 8 hours. Can I switch to Amoxicilllin-Potassium Clavulanate instead in another 8 hours? ## The best thing to do would be to see your doctor, to confirm the presence of an infection, and let them prescribe an appropriate medication, if one is present. However yes, you can smoothly transition from one to the other. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. I was prescribed amox tr-k clv 875mg on March 2, 2015 and been on it 8 days. Took meds yesterday afternoon notice my inside of ears felt hot my inside of nose felt like a burning sensation and my arms felt hot. I called my pharmacy. They told me it usually takes a few days before an allergic reaction starts. I called my doctor she told me to take Benadryl.. I was wondering do I still need to be evaluated by a Doctor. ## Hello, Vette77! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you had. However, that doesn't really sound like an allergic reaction. I had symptoms of the flu and strep throat, but tested negative for both. I was prescribed 2 875MG tablets a day. These pictures are from before the first pill I took, and before the last. Before: img922/420/Pv7eD1.jpg After: img923/2637/ZJNbiO.jpg ## The general rule that the NIH lists for antibiotic is that, if is working, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours, and you should start to see improvement after taking it for a full 3 days. The typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. However, even if you've had some improvement, if things start seeming to get worse, again, you should consult a medical professional, because you may need a longer course of treatmen...

I was prescribed amoxicillan for strep throat. They told me to take one pill twice daily. The dosage amount is 875mg. How many hours apart do I take one pill twice daily? ## Hello, Libre! How are you? According to the FDA, roughly every 12 hours, though it doesn't have to be exactly precise. For instance, if you take one at 8pm and then don't wake up until 8:30am or 9am, things will still be fine to take the next dose. Side effects for this antibiotic are also listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi I have IBS, so I'm wondering if it's ok to take clonamox for an ear infection.

I've been taking 875mg Amoxicillin/125mg Clav for a tooth abscess. My doctor gave me 10 days worth of meds to take twice a day. I've been taking it now for 4days but breaks it down into 3 times a day by splitting the pill in 1/2 which means I'm actually taking a pill and a 1/2. I tried the 1st day and it made me sick so I decided to try it this way but I'm noticing my abscess is not going down it actually got a little bigger. I was told that regardless the infection should've went down at least a little by now but it hasn't.. ## If you aren't taking the amount prescribed, then you may not be getting enough to eradicate the infection that has caused the abscess. Hi, I am taking 1000-62.5 amox-clav er. 2 pills in am and 2 pills in the pm. Is this too much to take? ## Hello, Carrie! How are you? Was that the dosage prescribed for you? Doctor's will sometimes prescribe higher amounts of an antibiotic, if an infection is particularly severe or hasn't responded to prior treatment. However, you may experience more severe side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Are you experiencing any side effects from it? Has the infection improved? ## Can you take amoxicillin 875mg for a sinus infection? I filled this prescription for tooth pain but never used it because I had a root canal. Is it safe to take this medicine..if i didnt take medicine will cough affect my baby? ## Hi, Nisha! Congrats on the pregnancy! And yes, this is a generic for the antibiotic Augmentin, which is considered safe during pregnancy and you are correct, if you have some type of infection, that would be far more dangerous to your baby than taking this medication. But it may cause you some side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Learn more Augmentin details here. Is there anything else I can help with?
