Both the XR and SR are just different abbreviations that stand for the same thing, they denote it as a controlled release medication. Some other abbreviations used for the same thing are ER and CR. How do these 3 rank in potency or whatever? ## Your doctor is right, on all except the percentage, the allowable difference by the FDA is plus or minus 20%, not 30. They consider this an acceptable therapeutic window. As to how any compare to the name brand, you are not going to get any information from just providing the color, since they don't actually mean anything and doesn't tell anyone who the manufacturer is. The rounded-edged bar with "1 1" on one side is most definitely Alprazolam 2mg. However, the white bar with "tv 1003 5 5 5" is most certainly not a Xanax bar. Most of the various other imprints are solid but it's not that hard not to get fooled on account of another med looking like one but not actually being one. All about that imprint! ## Yes, many people do get confused on these, because they are actually used to treat many of the same things.
