I was given something to counteract what I took when I overdosed and came up with hives. I've been told I now have an allergy to penicillin. Which was 16 years ago. Fifty years ago I was only slightly allergic to penicillin with rash on my butt. Currently, I've been sick with a bug going around for a week and a half now. Almost better except my gland hurts when I swallow and swollen and still slight congestion in my chest. I have 500 mg of Amoxil in my home. Is this okay to take this? It is the weekend and can't get to doctors and I do not want to pay the outrageous fee in urgent care. I also have another question. I have bottles of antibiotics that look the same as when I get a prescription that were for my Labrador dog. Are these the same as human drugs? A few weeks ago I was sick and was prescribed Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium tablets 875/125 mg to take twice a day. They worked fast and I didn't feel the need to complete the treatment. My doctor said some people may not be allergic to the amoxicillin but to the capsule it is put in, as these are made cheap with added 'E; numbers. I had swollen lips and tonge, short of breath when I took them and thought I was allergic to penicillin, after what my doctor said, I tried amoxicillin again, I took it out of the capsules and added the powder to a drop of fruit juice and guess what I had no reaction whatsoever to amoxicillin. I been taking antibiotics for about 18 days this sunday and will be done completely. My highest dose is 875 for amoxicillin. I was told by my son's Pediatirician that this was not penicillin (as he is allergic to PCN). Now after reading several discussions about this med, I'm worried. Please respond ASAP!
