My mom started this med on 11/28. Today 11/29, her legs felt week and the dr said it is unlikely the med I gave her tonight and I am worried to death. I am afraid something might happen cuz of this med. ## That might be a side effect of the medication, according to the FDA, she may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. It is usually nothing to worry about and things should go away, a week or so, after she finishes her course of treatment. However, if it becomes severe, or dangerous, it would be best to consult her doctor, again. Is she on any other medications?

shelf life sulfamethoxazole

I want to long-term store sulfamethoxazole for potential emergency use. What is the PRACTICAL shelf-life of this antibiotic? Forget about the manufacturer's statements. I want a real-world shelf life and storage instructions. ## From what I could gather, the estimated shelf life of the oral suspension and tablets are both 5 years. The manufacturer's storage instructions also suggest keeping it at room temperature and out of direct sunlight (below 86 degrees fahrenheit), to help prevent further degradation. According to a Harvard Medical School family health article, most types of medications are actually safe to use up to 10 to 15 years after their supposed expiration date listed by the manufacturer. However, there are some antibiotics in the Cycline class, which can be dangerou...

Is Ilvitrim Suspension good for my HIV negative baby? The doctor prescribe it while she was having a short breath problem. Thanks ## Hi Fanyana, Based on my research, Ilvitrim contains the active ingredients Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim; a sulfonamide antibacterial combination that is used in the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections. (not just limited to HIV). If your child's doctor prescribed it for what appears to be an upper respiratory or sinus related infection, Ilvitrim does sound like an appropriate medication for the job. However if you're asking whether or not a powerful antibiotic like this is good for your baby, my personal answer would be no, due to it's high risk of side effects. In which case, I would personally consider other more natural alternat...

I got bit by a spider the hispital gave ne this to take for 7 days how long will it b before the redness goes away so i can go back to work thank u oh red spot is about the size of a quarter ## Hello, Carmel! How are you? The general rule with antibiotics is that if they are working you shouldn't see any worsening after taking them for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement after taking them for a full 3 days. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am taking this drug for a double ingrown toenail removal surgery. Have been on it almost 3 days. I'm still battling fever, nausea, and pain. I'm also diabedic. What should I do? ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? Those can also be side effects of this antibiotic, as reported by the FDA, so it's really hard to say what's causing these symptoms. Have you consulted your surgeon? The FDA lists its other typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.

Hey I have a boil on the left side of my buttocks and its almost ready to burst can I take this pill now while its almost there?. The pill is pretty big and white I'm 23 it kind of scared me. Should I take half of it first or just the whole thing? How long do I take these pills? ## You should only take it, if your doctor has directed you to do so, if not, then it may not be the right medication to treat whatever has caused this issue, or you may not have enough of it to fully eradicate the infectious bacteria, which creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Has the boil been cultured?

Hi, I have some sulfamethoxazole 800/160mg and the prescribed date was 9/17/2013 and I was wondering if it is ok to still use? Thank you!! ## Hello, Joe! How are you? If you think you have an infection that requires an antibiotic, it would be best to see your doctor for a new prescription. Medications tend to lose effectiveness over time, which means that this one may no longer completely eradicate the bacteria, which puts you at risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No, thank you very much. I will ask the doc and so thanx again. ## Have a raging uti can't get to doc til Tomorrow Generally take sulfameth...
