What is the shelf life for Sulfamethoxazole-tmp?

In the US, all prescription medications, other than liquids, must be good for one year from the date the prescription was filled.

Sulfamethoxazole an Trimethoprim is an antibiotic used to treat various types of infections.

Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, skin rash and diarrhea.

I have SMZ-TMP DS Tabs over 6 years old. They have been in the original dispensed container in a drawer. Are they still good?

I have a Urinary Tract Infection and found these pills from a previous treatment (about 12 pills). They expired on 4/2015. Are they safe to take now?

If I take sulfamethoxazole -TMP DS that is beyond the expiration date, couldl it be harmful or just ineffective?

It's basically an effectiveness issue if you've used this drug in the past with NKA ( no known allergies ) to its properties, It may merely lack some of it's original potency.I hope that eases your concerns....
