My wife has been advised to take regestrone 5 mg for 5 days from 18/2, her period is due on 23/02. We are married since 3 years trying to have a baby. Please advise how the use of this medicine helps? ## Regestrone is sometimes used to help with ovulation, so she produces an egg to aid in getting pregnant. I am assuming that is why she was only on it for 5 days, rather than staying on it continuously. Is there anything else I can help you with? ## my gynec has advised to take the medcine (Regrestrone) for 21 days to stop the bleeding and after 2 days i will getmy regular periods is there any side effects ? is this is steriod type? ## No, this is not a steroid, Pumba, this is a hormone tablet. Has anyone else stopped long term use of Norethindrone
2 Replies RSS
I was put on norethindrone when I was approx. 45 (11 years ago) to stop extremely heavy periods, in an attempt to avoid a hysterectomy. The drug worked well...I haven't had a period in the last 11 years. Problem is my endometrial lining has increased (I was evaluated - no problem) so a good suggestion was made to stop taking the norethindrone. I may be in menopause but diagnostics can't tell because the drug masks what's going on. I've been off norethindrone for a week today. No bleeding, cramps or anything. Just wonder if anyone else has been through this before. It's hard to find any data on the internet and the doctors don't really seem to understand effects from long term use. Thanks for any info that can be provided. ## Anytime you use hormones, such as this...

Norethindrone 5mg for heavy bleeding
2 Replies RSS
Hi, I had been having very heavy menstrual bleeding for the last 2 months (Dec/Jan) so my dr. prescribed me norethindrone 5mg to take the first day of my period and to take it everyday. I also have the paragard copper IUD (which is partly the reason for the heavy bleeding). I got my period on Feb. 1st and started taking the norethindrone that day and I have been bleeding every day since then (now Feb. 16th). It started out light and it has gotten heavier the longer I have been on it. It is to the point where I am heavier now with the medicine than without. I am calling my doctor tomorrow but he has been out of the office for the last 4 days. Has anyone else had this problem? Should I just stop taking it? What happens if I stop taking it? I started getting night sweats the first day I to...
