It is NOT JUST YOU. I had my Ambien generic filled at Sam's Club and while the price was definitely cheaper I also received the purple MZ to stamped pills and I am here to tell you that they absolutely suck. I will never again fill any prescription at Sam's club. They also gave me a generic Xanax that were green colored instead of the standard blue footballs. I took these green Xanax and they were absolutely horrendous. I did a Google search and the green Xanax were made by Dava pharmaceuticals and they are widely known to be terrible. In fact I threw away my entire bottle and that'll tell you something because Xanax is a medication that helps me with my anxiety and the blue footballs are a life-changing kind of prescription where as these green pills absolutely suck. So to recap you are correct the MZ2 Ambien pills are terrible. I took up to three after the first one did not work and they still did absolutely nothing. I was wide-awake the entire night. Make sure that you use CVS or a better pharmacy that dispenses quality generic alternatives. For 1 mg Xanax I paid $21 at CVS and received the blue footballs which were worth every single penny. Sam's Club makes a lot of money by selling cheap alternatives, the problem is that the pills absolutely don't work. Do yourself a favor and make sure if you are getting generic medications they are getting the best of the generics that are available and for my money CVS or target have been the best options.

If insufflated, you are bypassing your GI tract where as soon as drug, fillers, excipients, binders for tablets etc. are absorbed and immediately shunted to the liver which breaks down or converts all to molecules that are then released to blood vessels to circulate and exert the intended effect. By insufflating, you are directly introducing all of the above into bloodstream directly or it may not be small enough of a molecule to pass through, so it sticks to your lung tissue And collects over time. Like lungs of coal mine workers. I hope this post helps to deter from misusing tablets intended to be ingested orally.

I tried the round purple Mylan zolpidem (10mg) one more time - fell asleep deeply for 2-3 hours, woke up at 2:45 and though I stayed right on the edge of sleep all night, it felt like something was actually preventing me from dropping off--and I'm pretty sure it was the zolpidem. Made me very cranky and I was absolutely exhausted the entire next day. I have no idea what to try or do. Going to M.D. tomorrow.

My doctor told me yesterday, when I protested what I see as fraud with these zolpidem generics, that it is the honor system basically, and that they are only legally required to be at least 70% of the strength of the original brand name drug. This means a 10mg zolpidem may have only 7mg zolpidem in it--which might explain a lot. The manufacturer gets to make more pills from the same amount of active ingredients. And nobody really checks the results. So it seems any profit-driven company's going to take advantage of this loophole.

reb, the pharmacy won't take the pills back or issue any refund. One of the big problems with this generic situation - the waste of $ for co-pays for the doctor and for the drug and the trips involved, for nothing. You need to talk to the pharmacist to find out if they can/will order the brand you want. And you need to be clear on the name and dosage of that brand so that you're just asking that one specific question. Hope this helps.

Same problem. I feel scammed, or at least cheated, by my Costco pharmacy. They charge the same price as the previous smaller white generic pills I have received for several months. Time to quit taking sleeping pills or switch to the name brand. Maybe by them from Canada, if possible.

Same here. Purple ones are fake. I noticed the first time i tried the purple instead of the long white. I look forward to the legal suit since this is interfering with my health, family life, etc. I am ready to change pharmacies. Hope this gets corrected.

I have been taking the mz2 ambien for a week now instead of the white bar ambien, my pharmacy used to fill. I have been cutting them in half, because the coating is hard and probably doesn't dissolve. It's been working fine for me.

This is confusing. The white slim long tablets from Northstar (E79) stopped working completely. I received the round purple tablets (M?) from Costco and for a month I slept like it was the original stuff. Then Costco decided to sell the Northstar white tablets along with every other pharmacy around. I checked.

Is it partially each person's chemicals make up that make them work differently?

I have always liked the Mylan brand. Now I am faced wit choosing between Teva or Torrent. Seems you are suggesting Torrent, but there are lots that disagree with you. I just dont know what to do.

I'm having the exact same problem. The purple ones are like swolling a piece of candy for me. I'm on my second one that I took 4 hrs ago and I'm still wide awake. The purple ones don't work for me either. I'll be in my pharmacist face in the morning ill,and all puffy eyed from lack of sleep

I've been taking my zolpidem for over 5 years now. The purple ones are also weaker than the other 2 brands I've come across.

It's the pharmacy chains that decide which generic to carry, usually based on cheapest price to them. Not the doctor. And a lot of the generics out there, as you'll see if you read more on this forum, simply do not work, or produce the opposite of sleep. It didn't sound in your post like you'd tried the new generic yet, but please do post how it worked for you, or didn't. I can't see your original post as I write this reply but I think you said you had purple round pills that say MZ2? Those are by Mylan, 10mg, and it's most helpful to give that manufacturer name and the number of milligrams, saves people so much time. I took one, only one, of the Mylan that got substituted when Qualitest stopped making them. Never again! What an awful night!

Lily what did you end up with? After the Qualitest discontinuation fiasco I settled with Mylan because it did something at least. Theyre all horrible, but you are in the same situation as me so Im wondering what you are using now.

Well, it either works for you or you just can't spell. But personally, the purple generic Ambien do not work as well, I have taken 4 in one night and finally caved and took a Klonopin and Xanax.

Mylan works great for me. All others are garbage. Apotex was the best generic, teva sucks, sandoz sucks

My Safeway pharmacy discontinued the Mylan zolpidem and now has the Northstar. The one that's oblong and looks like the Qualitest used to. I've read a few comments that this has worked for some people and I'll be trying it soon. Need to wait for a night where I don't have to show up anywhere the next morning.

The Northstar 10mg worked! And fast! I did wake up after 4.5 hours for a bit but was able to go back to sleep. This is the pointy oblong white one with E on one side and 79 on the other.
