Will The Pain Clinic Kick Me Out For Taking To Much Of My Meds
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I'm on 10 mg of hydrocodone. I have surgery in 3 weeks on my colon, the fifth one in a year with 2 more to go after this. I have not lied and this is all I take other than celexa 20 mg once a day and over the counter benedryl for sleep. My count will be low today. My plans for when when I get better and I've discussed this my doctor is to completely with their help to detox and never to take this again if possible. I've always been honest and I will today but I have had more pain this month and have taken more. Will I get kicked off because of a low count?

Re: Drm2014 (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

I didn't read all your message but have to say Foot Drop is urgent. What are they playing around with? Because you have to use VA? I had foot drop a few months after rupturing a disk. Obviously you are pinching a nerve and need cortisone shots an MRI and possibly surgery. Fortunately with me the pressure moved from the nerve to one causing pain instead and after a few months I was able to lift my toes and foot again. Then about 13 years later I had slowly progressing weakness in that leg to where it wouldn't lift me up more than 3 steps. I had a minimal modified laminectomy to take out a couple of bone spurs and within 6-8 months my leg is significantly better, letting me climb stairs again.

Wow these pain pros suck my doc writes or wrote for dilaudid whenever I had a kidney stone ( had 4 in total over 27 years ) but he's retired now. Feel so bad for you good folks just seeking pain relief.

I was already out of the pain management program before receiving the meds from the ER. I had my son with me Monday so they couldn't treat me with him being there. I didn't receive medications until after I had told them I couldn't come in for their count.

I respectfully disagree. When dealing with codeine, and obviously this patient was up front and tried to do all they could till the pain was just to much.
Who are you to judge?

Drm2014, if you signed a pain contract, you broke the pain contract. A new pain management dr will want to see a copy of your medical records from your pain management dr. It is possible that you may have a difficult time finding a pain management dr, if you can find one at all. You should not have gotten a pain med rx from the ER or any other dr without talking to your pain dr first, like you agreed to do when you signed the pain contract. You also should have taken your meds as prescribed, like you agreed to do when you signed the pain contract. If you couldn't get anyone on the phone at your pain drs, you should have gone in. If you called your pain drs office, there should be a record of it and if you didn't there not being a record says that you didn't. The er dr checked your states Prescription Monitoring Database to see when the last time was that you had a prescription filled for an opiate, what it was for and how long the prescription was suppose to last.

Hi DRM, so sorry to hear of your current situation. Sounds like you did everything above board, unfortunately I think a lot of docs are trying to reduce their pain patient population given the bs political environment. I would also get copies of all the er visits, so it will make logical sense to your next doc. Try asking a trusted pharmacy tech or pharmacist, if you have a long standing record with them. They may guide you to an understanding doc.
Best wishes

Sounds like the horrendous nightmare I went through! I was fed up with inj's. because they made it worse! Well one month I had a spot in my hip and gave inj. one last try. By the time I was pulling into my parking lot my body was convulsin from the hip and I literally dragged my self up the steps to my apt by pulling myself on the railing. When I sat down I started jerking at the waist with projectile vomiting. I thought it was pass but by midnight my roomie dragged me to ER..They said, "Oh you got the wrong kind of inj. and gave me a different one and a script for Demerol but I had Dilaudud from my pain management...They told me, side effect of dilaudid causes muscle spasms, that's why they prescribed it!!! Ok so Pharmacy refused to fill script since I had my pain meds which I would no longer use.I called pain doc but had hard time explaining myself in the midst of tears and agonizing screams! The pain was as though I was being cut by a sawmill around my hips while my legs were doing that lumpy morphing thing that werewovles do as their human bodies change. Ok anyhow so I wound up for three weeks laying in bed naked in a diaper without any pain meds and actually hallucinated from deletion. One reason I'm long winded always is to open eyes of what can happen in pain care... Pain doc said come on in bring your meds and we'll give a different script..I said, "I'm naked and have to call an ambulance because roomie can't touch me to carry due to pain. One night in a screeching pain induced deletion I called my pain doc and don't know what I said. I eventually could walk but now my right leg was bigger than my waist..I had a DVT-deep vein thrombosis from INJ'S.! I spent a month in the hospital and got a discharge letter due to whatever I said while in agonizing delirium pain.. The letter said I need psychiatric care. LOL

I was fired for 1 pill even though my usage decreased continually (had hyper metabolic with oxy and another med taken together) it went from 450-600mgs/day down to 145-150. 5.2 pills wasn't good enough even though it originally was 15-20 But if you have a good relationship w/ your doc you should be okay! My doc was fine, they all are! It's those darn NP. Good luck!

I was kicked out of my pain management clinic for missing a pill count/being short in count. A little backstory - The fentanyl patches were eating my skin off, literally, and I have scars and photos and numerous documentations of having issues with them. I called and left messages about needing to come exchange them for some other type of long acting med and nobody got back with me. The week before I woke up and discovered that my foot is numb and paralyzed. It's been like this for twenty days now and they've told me its foot drop. During that time my husband was on the carrier with the navy, so I'm at home with our toddler, unable to drive because my right foot isn't working. I was honest with them and told them that I had this going on, the ER has it documented, and I needed extra meds for breakthrough pain because of my foot. I apologized profusely, my meds were all on the month before at my appointment. Needless to say, I got the certified letter will be delivered message. I've gone to the ER three times since, trying to make someone help me because neurology can't get me in until June for the EMG testing alone. It'll be three months by then of not using my foot and I can already feel the muscles tightening and weakening. The ER doctors prescribed me a little medication to get me through a couple of days each time. Since they did that it would mean I'm not flagged or anything, correct? They never even mentioned me being thrown out, so I'm guessing the doctor may have felt bad for the situation and just released me and made sure I could find another doctor instead of being a total butt about it? If you're kicked out can you find a new pain clinic? My PCP sent my records to one and I'm waiting to hear back. It's not the records from pain management though. All doctors can see every record, right? I'm really stressed because I have a lot of severe pain and medical issues, five surgeries in two years and one more to go. I know it's my fault, but it happened and I just need to find a new doctor. I feel like the ER wouldn't have even helped me and the last doctor actually went to check when I told him that I was no longer in pain management, probably to see why. He didn't say anything and gave me three days worth after looking on the computer and accusing me of doctor shopping. I explained every prescription from every doctor, then it into pain management and had only got then from there up until the ER visit. Will another doctor take me? Will my PCP and hospital record be enough? I just need to be able to see another doctor. Should I explain this to them or not? I'm so stressed and this isn't helping. Thanks for your input

If you've gotten another Norco from another dr, your dr will know about it because Prescription Monitoring Program Database. If you sign a pain contract saying you wouldn't get pain meds from another dr, you may be dismissed without another rx. If you haven't gotten another rx from another dr but you've not taken you meds as your dr prescribed, you can be dismissed for that also.

Good luck! It depends on how you and doc get along and the mood they are in.....I was able for a year to be short every month but all it takes is a different nurse practitioner or your regular one having a bad day.
