There are examples of false positive drug tests in the literature because of metabolic differences in patients taking opioid medications. Your doctor or the tech doing the tox screen should be aware of the potential for this and control for it. For more on the subject, see: http://www.familydocs.org/assets/171_UDT%202006.pdf

They are in the same drug class and will all just show up as a general positive for opiates.

yes they are an opiate but have differant structure and can be seperated at a urine test.

Both are opiates. There are differences in the metabolite profile from patient to patient, but oxycodone is not metabolized to hydrocodone. It also depends on the test being used. If they are using immunoassay then both drugs would trip a positive for opiates - it's pretty general. There is a more specific test for oxycodone, but I'm not sure what the cross-reactivity for it is. Oxycodone and hydrocodone are very similar in structure (difference of a hydroxyl group, OH) and so generate similar metabolites. Depending on the method used for confrimation (if any) there is a potential for one of these metabolites to be confused with hydrocodone (or it's metabolites). Not every lab controls for this properly.

Apologies - hydrocodone also is not metabolized to oxycodone.

I have been prescribed moraphine 60 mg x 3 & norco 10/325 X 4 I have been taken meds just as directed but the last three UA's have shown I don't have metabolite hydromorphone so they have discharged me because of this & not only has trashed my integriety, I can find no pain clinic to go to so now I am faced with withdrawing from two highly addictive medications I will be in extreme pain! I have asked company (ameritox) to retest my last urine sample but was told that they would give results only to prescribing doctor. Can I legally do anything for discrediting me & what shall I do
from here?

I have a drug testing patch on for probation but am prescribed norco 10/325. I accidentally took an oxycodone thinking it was one of mine. Will this show up differently on the drug patch which is sent to the lab?
