Refilling My Valid Xanax Prescription Early (Page 3)

Updated

I only see one doctor and he gives me a 3 month supply of xanax. When I went the last time he wrote me out a prescription but I still had two refills. I had a friend and her husband passed away and I gave her some of mine thinking I would have no problem re-filling the prescription. I had sense enough not to go to the same pharmacy and not to give my insurance information. So I go to this small drug store by my house and I had to fill out paperwork such as dob, name and my DL #. Well they paged me to the front of the store and advised me that it was 7 days to early for them to re-fill. So my question is where can I go to re-fill a prescription that is valid written by the same doctor. I only tried one place, I'm guessing they must have a data base if you try and refill your prescription early (even without your insurance) does anyone have advice on where I can go to get this filled?

Mood stabilizers such as Lamictal work great for anxiety and often eliminate the need for a Benzo. I know for a fact. I'm bipolar 2 and Xanax worked ok but I have no need for anything additional since I have been on a mood stabilizer. Just tossing another idea into the pot

Nothing I read here at technical section here at the site supports your claim about Lamictal ? Your medicine is for Bi Polar People. People who suffer from anxiety generally are not bi- polar. In fact mood stabalizers and Lamictal can cause anxiety? Nasty stuff

Yes that can be done in certain States. Others States look for this. Keep in mind 'Doctor Shopping' which is what some people do is a crime. The DEA does keep records. I saw my Xanax Doctor every month and he gave me a month supply with one refill. Then he doubled my dose. Wanted me to have spares. I am at 4000 mg and not counting anymore!

I take Vicodin to combat severe back pain. I was wondering if I transfer this medication to another pharmacy (state of Missouri), will the last fill date be given to the new pharmacy?

MDL, that is a really stupid question that belongs in the Vicodin forum

How many refills do you have available? I thought Schedule 2 medication required a new prescription each fill?

Missouri

If the prescription is for greater than a 30-day supply of a Schedule II drug, the prescriber must write the medical reason on the prescription. A diagnosis code number is not acceptable
Physicians are prohibited from self-prescribing controlled substances except in a true medical emergency
Schedule II prescriptions are valid for 6 months
Quantity limitations for Schedule II controlled substances is 30 days for most; prescriptions for over 30 days require a medical reason, and the maximum is 90-day supply. Schedule III and IV controlled substances are limited to a 90-day supply

Parent and law enforcement groups are cracking down on almost every prescription that could possibly be abused now. Due to new laws I have to see my Dr once every two months now even though my prescription (Xanax) hasn't changed in 10 years. The DEA is cracking down on things like this where people truly need their meds far more than anyone buying them illegally. Every time I go into a store now and am told I have to show I'd if I want to clear my stuffy nose and am only allowed to buy 48 sutafed at max. My whole family has taken these our whole lives (the only thing I have found which truly works) so if we get sick they start actually questioning why we are buying so many. It's not right.

What will happen to a patient who submits a prescription in Dec. 2013, for Norco, which has two refills on it? I'm happy to go back to doctor if need be, however I won't be able to ask her these questions till next week. Thank you so much.

IN the old days, (before about 1990 or so) you could have gotten away with that. In fact many drug-seeking, doctor-shoppers DID. Now, with computerized everything, pharmacies are required by laws that carry stiff penalties (such as loss of licence) if they to not vet a dropped off script against the NATIONAL database that EVERY pharmacy licensed to fill scripts in the US and sometimes outside of it.

And less you think "they're too busy" to do that, beware that it's now automatic. When they enter the request into their computer system it automatically does it for them. The pharmacy tech will be provided EVERY instance you filled a script for that medication. Even if written by different doctors. The record is part of YOUR medical history complete with date, time Pharmacy location, license # etc of every FILLED script as well as everytime the script was presented and denied.

Much like an inquiry to your credit report which notates it everytime someone accesses the record—even if it' you.

The database pharmacists are required to subscribe to, goes even further and can identify unusual patterns such as using a differnet pharmacy everytime.

I found that out when my normal pharmacy did not have any Adderall in stock. (It's a drug often on back order). So I tried another location of this pharmacy chain and they were out too. I spent hours bouncing between pharmacies even outside of that franchise. Eventually, I found one that had it in stock, but the pharmacist came to the drive through window and told me the insurance company wouldn't allow it noting thew unusual activity.

And even if you think you will just pay out of pocket, by-passing the insurance, forget it.

There are a couple options. You can request a vacation pass in which case, if you are going out of town for a holiday, the pharmacist can, at his/her discretion) allow it filled a couple days early. This option is available only once a year and often considers if there will be a pharmacy in that area, then tell you to fill it there while on vacation.

OPTION #2 is similar, but depends on how well the pharmacy staff knows you. If you fill your scripts at a single pharmacy, they may choose to fill a new script up to about 3-5 days

PS: Don't forget, Big Brother REQUIRES every American to have health insurance

Something tells me CVS is now participating in the NJ Rx Monitoring Database as of December 2013. On the 23rd I went to my usual CVS in NJ and filled my Adderall and attempted to fill my Xanax. A couple things which caught my attention. The pharmacist filled the script for 120 30mg Adderall with no concerns. She handed the freshly written script for 90 2mg Xanax w/ 1 refill back to me and said "your last script was for a 30 day supply. You're 7 days too early". This CVS has filled Xanax and Adderall scripts 10-12 days early for me as I travel for business which they have validated. Point being I'm fairly sure CVS is now participating in the NJ database because every patients name gets standardized as it appears on their NJ Drivers license. All the documentation I received last month does not include my middle name or middle initial. This month all my documentation has my full name, DOB, and quantity remaining if there are refills ex. (QTY REMAINING 180). 2 refills. These are the exact same changes Walgreens made to comply with NJ Rx monitoring. My doc does not write (do not fill until 30 days post script) or (30 day supply). My doctor insists I call as soon as an issue crops up. But this is an extremely petty reason to waste to doc's time. I may go to another CVS. But I'm not gonna go pharmacy hopping to get this filled. This wouldn't bother me except I'm set to travel to Montreal for business on the 29th. I'll leave you with a noggin' scratcher. Why would the pharmacist fill the CII Adderall with no qualms but simply refuse the CIV Xanax script? It seems it should be the other way around.

ALL pharmacies are in sync. You can't get it refilled anywhere before the due date

If you went to wal greens, go to cvs or another big pharmacy, as long as they don't share computer servers ( which they don't) you should be fine.

Sean. All pharmaRcies share the same database by law. All of them. CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, Walmart, Hospital pharmacies, do share the exact same database. Required by law.

Hydrocodone combnation prescriptions are only a Schedule II in New York State. They will be Schedule II everywhere later on in 2014. All states have prescription monitoring programs. Everything is entered into the database when you get a rx filled and a pharmacist has to check the database before filling any rx. Some states have laws where a dr has to also check the database before writting certain rxs.
