Refilling My Valid Xanax Prescription Early (Page 2)

Updated

I only see one doctor and he gives me a 3 month supply of xanax. When I went the last time he wrote me out a prescription but I still had two refills. I had a friend and her husband passed away and I gave her some of mine thinking I would have no problem re-filling the prescription. I had sense enough not to go to the same pharmacy and not to give my insurance information. So I go to this small drug store by my house and I had to fill out paperwork such as dob, name and my DL #. Well they paged me to the front of the store and advised me that it was 7 days to early for them to re-fill. So my question is where can I go to re-fill a prescription that is valid written by the same doctor. I only tried one place, I'm guessing they must have a data base if you try and refill your prescription early (even without your insurance) does anyone have advice on where I can go to get this filled?

NC will fill a Xanax script 7 days early. They do mine anyway.. but VA will if only do 2 days but this is with RiteAid... other pharmacies are different. I have been looking for the laws on Xanax refills in VA and can not find them. I need mine filled a bit early this time because my pain management Dr took over my Xanax and shouldnt' have and dropped the dosage.. wrong! I had been on 5 1mg a day for 28 years.. then he dropped it to 3 and I went crazy.. finally got him up to 4, but still is not controlling my panic anxiety disorder.

North Carolina is not allowed under Federal Law to fill a controlled medicine 7 days before it expires. Sure it happens, even my Insurance pays after 75% of the refill is used up, but you can't say an entire State violates Federal Law?

Hi, I recently lost 2 weeks of xanax on the bus here in Tampa. I'm perscribed 2mg 3x a day. My question is, my doctor told me and the Walgreens pharmacist that she couldn't let me fill 2 weeks early because of a law against it. I and the Pharmacist have never heard of such a thing. Can anyone help? Adam, 34, Tampa, FL Is there really a law against early refills of alprazolam in Hillsborough County, FL? Thank You. If so can you let me know the statute. Thanks again

No question it is true in Florida. This is not a Federal Law but a State statute. The Doctor could have doubled your dose to get you some extras, and you might have some serious problems until you can get a refill. And the Pharmacist has heard of the new Florida laws. I even saw an interesting statement in my Miami Doctors file where it said patient is advised I will dispense 135 tablets a month and no more. That was news to me?

Considering the law and actions taken, You are a Criminal. You gave your very powerful Drug to another person, you are lucky that they are still alive, and not in the hospital. Diverting medications is very dangerous, and sets a poor example for other people, you have no idea how much damage you could have done. There are medications that when combined create a Synergistic Reaction, it can create an overdose, actually a huge overdose depending upon the drugs involved. If you want to kill someone this is a great way to do it. I use the very same meds and your actions are why they established the cross checking system initially. Keep this in mind next time you "Think Your a Doctor" in my state you would be in jail, and you can bet that your doctor knows about this already. You may have to "Get along without them", since you hand them out. Your doctor is at risk as well, don't think they will be increasing anything soon, you are risking your Doctors License, to prescribe any meds to anyone.

Florida isn't messing around. Glad I got out alive!

Possession of Xanax in Florida
“Florida law requires that your driver's license be suspended for two years upon conviction.”-- Richard Hornsby
Xanax is the trade name for Alprazolam, which is listed as a Schedule IV drug in Florida. And it is a Third Degree Felony to possess any amount of Xanax (even one pill) w/ out a prescription.

And because of the serious consequences for such a simple crime, it is important to know the:
•Penalties for Xanax Possession and
•Defenses to Xanax Possession.

Penalties for Xanax Possession

If convicted of possession of Xanax, you could receive any combination of the following penalties:
•Five years of being subject to supervision,
•Five years in prison, or
•A fine of up to a $5,000.

Driver's License Suspension

Finally, your Florida driver's license will be suspended for two years upon conviction if you are adjudicated guilty by the court.

@ Vernon and Deb, what you are saying is true however there is another hoop that has to be jumped through, at least according to my shrink. When he recently changed my script he had to call the pharmacy and cancel the other script so that they could fill the new one. This may be just in my state but am betting that is already in affect in most states. Also, deb,the pharmacy doesn't have to fill any script, they can and do refuse legally.

I recently ran out of my xanax. I called to get refill at my dr office. I had them decrease the mg. It was .5 reduced to .25 mg. Tho on my dr records it doesn't show that it was increased to .5mg. When I went to pick up my script, the pharmacy told me I needed to come back in 3 days. She was rude to me. I told herI was going thru a rough time and could not sleep. She told me to take bendryl. Which was a night mare. Hate that stuff. A day later at 3:30 in the morning I ended up in the E.R. my body could not handle it no more. I have been on xanax for 6+. My blood pressure was pretension. Very high. I was shaky and scared to death. My er dr gave me valium to calm me down. He perscribed more for one day. I had to call off work that day. And I did not get paid for it. That being said, I had a bad panic attack, missed work had to go to er. All because the pharmacist would not give me my perscription, which was lowered and should have been despensed to me. Knowing that I have been on it for so long, don't they know, stopping it abrubtly could kill you.

Most places are being forced to use a database now for any narcotic. Even little mom and pop stores have to call in and check. Sure it makes it so people can't get more than one bottle at a time but it also makes it so your nervous each month not knowing if the pharmacy will give you a hard time. I used to go to
Walgreens for years and my prescription has been the same all of that time. But one day early this year I went to get my refill since it was 29 days they told me they couldn't give it to me until the next day which I would have had to take off of work if I wanted my medication in the morning. I made them call my Dr and he had to up my dosage in order for them to fill it a day early. He told me to go elsewhere and I have been using CVS ever since. There are still a few stores not using the data base but it's probably not a good idea to ask or they will double check.

They have made some very strict laws now because of the abuse of prescription meds. In a way it is good but giving people who work in a pharmacy that much control over your meds is not right. Maybe they should focus on the criminals instead of the sick but they love their drug war. I've had many times where I have made them call my dr because they claim I'm there a day early and it is ridiculous. Our government has given basically anyone who works at a Walgreens the ability to override our Drs. That is not right.

@Concerned:
If you were told by a Pharmacy or Pharmacist to take Benedryl and then wound up in the ER, I would think of suing the Pharmacy?

One more thought. Instead of the Doctor lowering your dose, he could have raised it. Because it was lowered there is no way the Pharmacy in question should fill your request for the new lower dosage early?

Eddy, They gave me the wrong strength, in the first place. It should have never been raise to .5. But I took it for 6 months. Stupid, stupid. But if the dosage is changed. I don't understand why she wouldn't refill. She also told me to call my dr in the morning to add more drugs to my life to help me sleep. I'm not sure what to do here. I don't like taking meds as it is. The nerve of her.

If you needed more, why did you take less? Perhaps you post is just written wrong? In any case when a Doctor changes your dosage, the pharmacy is no longer allowed to dispense what you have or had if it is a different strength. Sure the Pharmacist sounded snooty but the new state laws now call for this. I have had a pharmacy give me a hard time, and that is why I always tried to collect Xanax. I will NEVER run out by having 2000 extra bars available, and the last thing I will ever do is take additional amounts of this medicine as I almost died once from discontinuance!

Well I'm still a little confused, but hope it all works out for you! I used to count my Xanax, and now Its by the bottle, with Bars. I had never seen a Bar before my doctor doubled my 1 mg dose to 2 mg. He was my attending Hospital Doctor and knew at least what happened to me. Now I few years later I have collected the extras. Wish it all was gone, but that didn't happen yet.
