Price Difference Suboxone And Subutex
(Newest replies first)

hello all. thanks ahead of time for the.help. let me begin by saying that i am in recovery from opiate addiction. i realize that there is a bad stigma out there about these programs, but if you have the desire to get clean they really work. i have been on suboxone for a couple months and have been completely devout to the program, havent messed up once. my insurance ran out last.month, and the cost of my monthly perscription is now over $650 for two tabs a day. i have heard that subutex is significantly cheaper, and the current cost of my perscription is entirely undoable. can anyone tell me if i would save money by switching to generic subutex paying out of pocket?

I was in the exact same situation and still am regarding the recovering addict and I always will be a "recovering addict" no matter if I am not taking anything at all. Some people believe they are clean just because they are not taking pain pills but Subutex or Suboxone instead.

Based on the $650 you mentioned, I'm assuming you were on 60 8MG Suboxone pills or film strips. They put me on Suboxone and I started feeling odd things such as my throat swelling and redness around the throat/cheek area. I was then told the Naloxone was causing this. After a hesitant decision, I was put on Subutex @ the same dosage/quantity and the reactions stopped completely. I have also not had to increase my dosage at all.. I have actually reduced it from 60 a month down to 45 and now 30 8MG pills. They saved my life.

The difference in price was astronomical as it went down to $180 from a pharmacy with a family name. The price for Subutex (Buprenorphine is written on my bottle as I get the generic Roxane brand.) from Walgreens and CVS were around $250 or more IIRC. Now as far as the $180.. and this is more good news, you can use discount cards that can be printed out from various websites. I would print ALL of them out as there will likely be just one or two that are even accepted or even worth it. So I would take all of them to the pharmacy and they will tell you which one to use.

Good luck on your recovery and keep getting better. I thought about getting off of them however my doctor who unlike those who prescribe Suboxone, does not make any money off of this plead with me to not do it so soon. They gave me contact info. that most patients NEVER get out of concern as long as it was only for emergencies or common sense situations. I don't have all the answers but I will be completely truthful only stating what I know as fact. If I don't know, I will say I don't know and not give some answer based on opinion.

Hello,

Based on my research, the difference in price between Suboxone and Subutex is pretty large. Some say that Subutex is 50% cheaper than Suboxone. However, the price of any medication will depend on your pharmacy and insurance provider. I recommend calling your local pharmacy to inquire about your options.

Side note: Subutex does not contain Naloxone which many patients prefer, some patients report feeling sick from the Naloxone.

I hope this information helps!
