After taking the first treatment of Chantix last Nov.,2006, I started to feel depressed, develop mood swings, constant irritability, weird dreams, and started to pick fights with my husband that it would turn out to be destructive because I would slap him on the face a lot of times and then hit my head with my fists. I would easily cry for no known reasons. I develop insomnia. I am forgetful of matters now, I had a very retentive memory before taking Chantix. I develop suicide ideation. One day after taking the complete treatment of Chantix, from 11'2006, 12'2006 and 01'2007, around 3rd week of March, 2007, I started to feel something bad in my body, I felt extremely weak and I was running a temperature of 103 degrees. It happened again, for 3 or more consecutive days, I would developed a fever of 103 degrees to 105 degrees only at night. So on the 3rd or 4th night, my husband took my temperature again and I was running a fever of 105 degrees. I was so weak and not responding to his questions anymore, so he took me to the emergency of a nearby hospital. The hospital staff put me in the intensive care unit and stayed there for about 5 to 6 days for intensive treatment. They didn't know what was happening at first. And finally they said that I have pneumonia and an infection of the bladder. I was so bewildered why I had pneumonia while I did not have any pneumonia symptoms. When the doctors sent me home, a nurse would come to the house because they had to change the instrument that the doctor at the hospital put into my skin closed to my heart. They had to monitor it and to changed the dressing. It lasted for about a week or so. Over a period of time, I became worse. I developed RLS, Restless Leg Syndrome, I attempted suicide by taking different pills but I didn't die. I feel so helpless and useless. I tried to go back to work and had offers, but came to find out that I can't even work because all my horrible symptoms are a hindrance! My life is dysfunctional since taking Chantix. I want my life back pls. I have frequent headaches, bad chronic body pains, nausea, dizziness, my vision became blurry and develop very dry eyes. My eyes is so sensitive to the sun and lights. I develop palpitation, chest discomfort, erratic breathing, body tremors, develop extreme panic attacks and the attacks would be more than 4 times a day, everyday! I am confused and easily get disoriented during the day.I develop constipation, abdominal pains, indigestion, and heartburn. I have chills frquently and off and on rashes on my body. I have dry mouth and very bad pain, numbness and heaviness from around my hip down to my legs. I have body tremors almost every other day and experienced blackouts about three different times. I develop bad back pains and very bad pains on the back of my neck on both sides. I develop depression and I have significantly reduce sexual desire and a very big increase in weight gain of around 20 to 25 lbs. in 15 months. Throughtout all my ordeal, I never thought that all of these was caused by Chantix, (smoking cessation pill) until I was browsing on the net and saw a statement that says FDA WARNING ABOUT CHANTIX.. I read the article and called my husband about it. I was so upset and and I cried and said to my husband that the symptoms of taking Chantix are the same symptoms that I have! I never had any idea that Chantix is the culprit! At first I thought it is because of my hormones because I am going through menopause, and being a Manager ,I was having a lot of stress from my job. My husband is disable and I can't work, we need some money to help me with my copays for my doctors, my copays for my pills, copays for the lab tests and procedures, our rent, and our utility bills. We are behind in everything! I can't work because of my condition and my Cardiologist told me the same. We just live on a fixed income monthly. I spoke with 4 to 6 lawyers for legal representation, but they refused to help me because they said their criteria is if a person committed suicide and resulted in death or was hospitalized for treatment, then those people have possible lawsuits. What about for those people who didn't? I have been harmed extensivley by Chantix and do not even know if I will get better. Money is not comparable to what I became right now. I want my life back. I have been extremely messed up by this Chantix. We have to stand together to eradicate this drug completely out in the market before it harms and injures more. Besides my Primary Care Physician, I have a Cardiologist, Neurologist, Pain Specialist, Chiropractor, and 2 Psychiatrists. I walk like a 100 yr.old woman and walks like one. I want justice! If you have been harmed and wants to ask any questions, or if I can help by informational advices, please respond.

I have to agree with Fred. Your problem isn't the Chantix. You and your husband seem to have had problems before you ever took Chantix. Quit trying to rely on lawyers and handouts.

Your story is unfortunate, and you are not alone. There is a related discussion thread, and maybe you can offer a sad mom some kind words. Her daughter took her own life recently.

In reply to Fred: Have you ever been on any type of antidepressants or anti anxiety medications? If not, maybe you should---you sound quite hostile and brittle as ice to me--or just admit that you are a habitual and excessive wanker, in which case, your are in luck because: (1) they cut disability checks for that if an acquaintance is to believed; (2) it gives you every right to be a jerk off, and last but not least (3) it gives everyone else the great pleasure of telling you to go jerk off in a corner somewhere, Peckerhead, except that you would like that only too well and Lord knows I don't want to be your enabler. So,...just whip it out and stomp on it will ya?.

If you are taking Chantix as a smoking sensation, I suggest branded Wellbutrin XL 300 mg. I am currently on it for smoking and to be honest it is the best. The generic does not work at all for me because of a release in the pill, way too quick rather than the brand which is a slower release. Hope this helps!

check all medications you re taking esp. if they re generics , FDA has know since sept 2008 an warned all major drug manufactuers of unapproved or ineffective ingreidients in some medications, check web site K V Pharmeicetuicals an Ethex Corp, heard of some watson problems

To Fred, The Chantix may or maynot be the culprit. This younglady seems to be having a hard time trying to live her life as a productive citizen, and for you to poke fun at her or even think that she may be lieing about her condition is just plain wrong. God forbid that somthing will happen to you that would bring you to your knees. I have P.A.D.because of smoking, and was told to quit smoking. I am glad that she shared her story about Chantix. Now I know to stay away from it, because I could end up worse off than her. All I can say is, Younglady keep the faith, PRAY, and hopefully things will get better soon. GOD BLESS YOU!!

In reply to Expa99..I believe every word you are saying about chantix..I took it for 3 months in 2007, since then I have had every sympton you have had. My Doctor thinks I am crazy with all these symptons going on and he tells me nothing is wrong with me. Unfortunally I went back to smoking..and if you can believe this I am taking Chantix again, only half in the morning and half at night, on the 9th day smoke free, but the chantix is bothering my stomach so bad. I guess it might be because of cutting it in half.. not sure how much longer I can take this pill...They really should take this pill off the market, it is very dangerous.....God Bless You Expa99 I believe every word you have said........

It's Chantix. I almost killed myself. If you want a lawyer to take your case, go to the nearest hospital, tell them you want to die and insist they put you in the pyschiatric unit. Don't mention Chantix until they admit you.

Its a rare reaction to varenicline. extremely unfortunate. dnt worry. u may switch to bupropion as far as smoking is concerned. take pregabalin and clobazam for present health problems. consult a doc before that. gud luck. it is a reversible problem. it will soon pass.

My husband started Chantix while I was away for a week. Every time I spoke to him on the phone he yelled and acted unusual. I returned home and found out he had tried to catch my cat and put it in a bag to drown it. He also expressed a desire to shoot the dog, his kids, and himself. He got of the Chantix and went back to normal. The crap is evil. Yes, you will quit smoking, because you kill yourself and that tends to put an end to it. Sidenote: drinking alcohol greatly exacerbates the reaction. If you are dead set on trying Chantix, don't drink

I am so sorry for everything that has happened to you :( . If I had the money to send you a check to pay your bills I would. Let me introduce you to someone who can help you with everything though. His name is Jesus! I will pray for you and I suggest that you do the same. The thing is he may not make your problems go away completely, but wouldn't it be easier to deal with them with a heart and mind that is at peace? Trusting that the Lord will always provide and that he loves you. Read the new testament, pray, then ask and you shall recieve.

I used Chantix back in May of 2008 to quit, and I did. Smoke free for almost 2.5 years after smoking a pack a day for 26 years. I am a believer in the product, but wonder at what cost? I have some serious issues going on, and the doctors can't seem to find anything wrong with me...healthy as a horse.

1. I really suffer from lack of patience anymore. Little things, stupid things, just get me angry. Road rage is terrible, even when someone simply doesn't use a turn signal.

2. Constant headaches...although minor, are really annoying. Doctor says it's stress, which I have never had in 39 years prior to Chantix. I can't even have more than a few beers and I have a migraine for days.

3. Constant dizziness. I always feel like my head is slightly spinning, or light headed. I can't remember anything short term and get distracted so easily. I always seem to be in a daze if I'm not truly focused.

I am just wondering if anyone else is having these same symptoms?

over 2 years and this is still happening and seems to be getting worse...I just wonder what the really long term affect is going to be.

This lady is crazy without any medication, i should know i know her, she has had mental issues most of her life, any one who falls for anything this ladies says is just a sucker, she will use and abuse anyone who comes in contact with her, she is a sociopath. I know first hand that she was on a tleast four antidepessant medications years ago and never took the medication properly, she has attempted suicide many times, but it was never any real attempts it was just for manipulations and sympathy don't believe this lady you will be burnt the minute you deal with her, she is just fishing for a new scam since she thinks there is money to be made. She is an abusive woman by nature and bi-polar. this medication had nothing to do with her issues she was messed up way before this.

I am starting my third week of Chantix and feel quite the same. I have a constant headache just waiting to always explode, I feel dizzy and nauseus. My stomach hurts constantly and sometimes so bad I don't think I can take it anymore.I have smoked for so many years and Chantix is the first thing that has made me feel like I just may be able to quit but with the way I feel I have been thinking of giving up. And after all I have read that these symptoms last long after stopping I am getting scared.
