How To Wean Off Viivryd

Help! I have been on Viibryd, 20mg since Oct 2013. At first it made a wonderful improvement in my mdd, then in Jan - May 2014, I noticed I'd been having horrid headaches with severe neck and should pain. PCP ordered PT. Didn't help. May 19th,2014 I weaned from 20 to 10 mg dosage. The head and neck pain went away after two days, but then was hit with extreme pain in lower spine, along with terrible side affects. rapid heartbeat, very low bp, faintness, nausea,weakness. I continued on with the bad side affects and finally after 2 wks. saw an improvement. 6/8/14 decreased from 10 to 5 mg. I have been exp. the rapid heart beats some today, anxiety issues, but want to desperately get off this medicine. It is the worst anti-depressant I have ever been on. First anti-dep. was prozac in 1988. I've read that some other patients have had joint pain and other similar side affects like mine, anyone have pain in low spinal area? Diag: Bipolar I, MDD, Anxiety, PTSD. Can anyone relate? I'd appreciate any help. My Psych Dr. said he hasn't heard his other patients complain from negative side affects. He also had me on large dose of Lithium Carbonate 900mg last year, and I had to be hospitalized for toxicity, flushed out of system, then he put me back on the 900mg. dosage the very next a.m. He eventually had to decrease my Lithium dosage to 600mg. daily. Meds: Alprazolam 2mg, XR two daily, lamotrogine 200mg, bupropion 150 XL, Zolpidem (ambien) 15mg Prazosin 2mg two bedtime (PTSD, nightmares), and again, Viibryd 10 mg. daily I'm weaning to 5mg. currently. He doesn't want me to.

Hello, Vanessa! How are you doing?

Yes, there have been other complains similar to yours about Viibryd and quite a few people had to stop taking it due to such side effects.

Has your doctor made any other suggestions regarding what you can try next? Have you considered getting a second opinion?

Hi Verwon, thanks for your reply. Yes, I have thought of getting a second opinion from a different Psychiatrist. I've had several people recommend that I do that, and now that you have validated my side affects as ones that others (unfortunately for them) have experienced, I am quite certain I will be doing that as soon as I can. I have been on several antidepressants & other Psych meds, since 1988, but I have to reiterate loudly, my experiences with Viibryd have thus far been the worst! I truly hope the FDA gets that this medicine is more harmful, than helpful, that seems clear from all the responses on viibryd side effects, and will take it off the market.
