Efrogen (Ephedrine) is currently banned in the US (for use in dietary supplements) as of 2006, because the FDA did not approve of certain dosing that they believed to be harmful.

Personally I think Ephedrine would do more harm than good in terms of weight loss; simply because I am all for natural alternatives to getting the results you are looking for. I feel that any supplement, (especially one that has been banned for one reason or another) would hinder the body's normal way of dealing with weight loss, and sully rely on drugs to get the job done.

Ephedrine is available outside the US, and in non-dietary supplements. So if you are willing to take a risk just make sure to pay strict attention to proper dosing and timing.
