Cramps From Meloxicam

Knee problems from years of racquetball - miniscus are gone - doc prefers me do the Rball for heart health rather than knee replacement. (ME TOO!!!). Incredibly - Meloxicam (15 mg / day) has ZEROED the pain. The problem I have developed after about two months is leg cramps - usually calf muscles & usually during the night - a couple of times a week. Is there a fix for these leg cramps?

According to the NIH, the most common cause of nighttime leg cramps is low potassium levels in the body, this medication has been known to cause dehydration in some people that take it, which could contribute to the problem.

How much fluid do you take in each day? Do you eat any potassium rich foods, such as oranges or bananas?

I drink 6 to 10 Gatorade G2 (smallest size) a week and eat bananas occasionally. In reading other posts on this forum I have discovered that the Losartan HCTZ 100-25 mg I take daily (for BP) is probably also contributing to my leg cramp problems. I am scheduled for my annual physical soon - I will certainly review my blood lab results with my doc (potassium, kidney, liver ....). Your post has been a wake up call for me! It occurs to me that my orthopedic doc & my heart doc have done wonderful jobs with my health concerns but that my family doc might need to rule on the interactions and side effects and fixes for my concerns. Thank you for your very pertinent post!
