Brintellix Nausea & Headache
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I've been on 5mgs for 2 weeks now. Having nearly unbearable side effects so no increase yet. Was supposed to up to mgs after 1 week. No obvious mood changes except constant nausea & headache. Anyone have similar initial experience & then began to see benefits? Willing to hang in there if it will be worth it. Thanks!

I have been on these pills for 4 days. My dr put me on 20mg. I'm sick from nausea and dizziness and diarrhea. So I go back tomorrow on my old pills. How long will these pills remain in my system?

Been on it for 4 months @ 20mg and the nausea and vomiting are not improving. Didn't realize it was the drug. Had upper GI. IT'S THE DRUG. But everything else is better. .So now I have to go off and don't know what to try. Cymbalta for years and it just made me numb. I thought this was the answer to my problem. My sin passed away and I've never been the same but them it became chemical imbalance. So confusing all these meds. Suggestions? Just wish I knew what to tell my PCP. Like what's the next best thing?

I'm on my third week at 10mg and my nausea is CONSTANT...loss of appetite like never before and although thats better than gaining weight...I can't even enjoy a good meal. I am looking forward to getting back to my doctor to see if I should persevere. Depression and moods have not increased favorably enough to want to continue. I just hate this roller coaster. I had been on Effexor XR for over 10 years with excellent results until I became immune; then had a terrible withdrawal. Hoping to manage with a new medication soon.

I started with Brintellix 5mg for 4 weeks. Horrible nausea, dizziness, vomiting. Dr. said too low of a dose to tell anything. Bumped me up to 10mg. Took 10mg x2 days. Severely worse. Going to taper off and get off this horrible med!

Hey Jackster,

Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time out to post back! Weighing out the pros and cons (with all the nagging symptoms you described, along with Brintellix's inability to treat your anxiety/depression), it sure sounds to me like you made the right call in the end by discontinuing treatment.

I hope you continue to find relief through Prozac and will look forward to reading any future updates you might have along the way!

~Wishing you good health always~

I discontinued this medication & immediately felt better. This was just not the med for me. I had constant nausea with minimal improvements with my anxiety & due to the feeling ill its hard to say if it helped with depression. I am very sensitive to medication lately so I don't want to discourage anyone but
personally this was just not the right fit for me. I've gone back to Prozac & am feeling better. Best of luck to all!

Thank you, David for your help. Per Dr., I am continuing with 5mgs & am to play around with time of day to take. I had been taking right before bed in hopes of sleeping through the worse nausea. I did take in the am but felt zombie-ish all day. I am questioning if this is the one for me. I actually am feeling more depressed since starting & still have slight nausea & headache. I have another apt in about 2 weeks with the hopes side effects & mood improvements. Just took an am dose & am going to gage how I feel today and decide if I need to discuss with Dr. I actually felt better before starting than do now but was told Brintellix is slow to get in your system & make you feel better, if you can tolerate the initial side effects. I am told I am highly sensitive to meds so slow & steady is our course but what a waste if this will never work! He did say that his patients are doing really well on this new med. Sure wish I could be added to that list. Thank you, again for your response. I really appreciate it!

Hi Jackster,

Sorry to hear about the symptoms you're having to deal with. According to the manufacturer, nausea is actually reported to be one of the most common side effects of Brintellix (vortioxetine). However, other patient reviews I've come across online, do suggest that the nausea either goes away with time or by cutting down the dosage (of course after talking with your Dr.). As to exactly how long the nausea lasts? - That could be anyone's guess, but I'd imagine that certain antidepressants can take a good several weeks for some individual's to adjust to. After that point, I'd probably begin to question whether the benefits outweigh the side effects...

Hope this helps!
