Zolpidem Generic (Page 11)

Updated

ALL CVS pharmacies just changed the zolpidem from MYLAN manufacturer (out of PA) to TORRENT in India. Because generics can certain behave differently, I am nervous about taking the (10 mg) oblong peach Torrent brand one after reading some things online. I also don't like the idea of CVS using from out of the country manufacturer which HAS to be due to a better price because MYLAN brand is still very readily available. Any comments?

This is Lily. The Northstar over 4 tries has worked at best for 4.5 hours, sometimes not at all. I still have some Qualitest left but dread what will happen when I run out. The Mylan doesn't work for me at all except to somehow actually prevent me from sleeping. You feel drugged, though, and because you don't sleep it off you feel awful the next day. The Torrent is like that too only way worse--that comment about making you crazy? Yup. Something really weird happens, the opposite of sleep.

I have gotten zanaflex and zolpidem from CVS, but switched because they did nothing! I now go to Walgreens. Seems the Valium isn't up to snuff but my I insurance doesn't cover name brand. That will cost 210.00.
For 90. But I've had better luck with Walgreens.

Hey Lily, Im going to try Sandoz next. Wish me luck. I totally understand what you mean by dreading when your Qualitest ran out. Im still having PTSD (lol) related to the Qualitest discontinuation primarily because its been a never ending, nightmare inducing, trial and error deal where I still havent found another reasonably functional general ambien alternative. I'll be honest, Im really kind of pissed off. ;-) I'm pissed off at Sanofi for dropping their authorized generics like Winthrop and Prasco years ago. I'm pissed at my insurance company for completely removing brand Ambien from even the highest tier (brand is just flat out not covered now). I'm pissed at Endo for buying Qualitest and then slashing their product line. This generic ambien cabal is just a true basket of deplorables LOL I had to say that with the election a few weeks out. Anyway I'm crossing my fingers on Sandoz.

I do not believe that Sandoz has the regular generic for Ambien (only the ER version). The ER version (brand) left me with a "hangover" in the morning and it ws also difficult for me to sleep. That is why I've been taking the regular (10mg) Qualitest and then more successful with Torrent 10mg, since Qualtest no longer availabl

I do wish you luck, Chris M, and please post what pharmacy you ended up getting them at and how it went. Also, 5mg or 10mg. Good luck!

Hey Chuck,
I didnt know Sandoz had a non extended release generic either, but they infact do. My pharmacy just ordered it because I asked them to look it up. Oh by the way, back to my railing on my stupid insurance company, they dont cover extended release AT ALL. Not brand, not even generic. I mean if you thought their removing brand regular Ambien completely was bad, this is like a step worse because no generic. If they would cover it, Id ask my doctor and get the Winthrop because its made by Sanofi but moot point.

I am exceptionally relieved to say that Sandoz 10 works almost perfectly! I am really amazed now having used this for three days just how bad Mylan was! This thing is night and day better. Of all the generics Ive taken, the Sandoz is the first one that gives you that relaxed feeling for a few minutes before you fall asleep like the brand name Ambien. Ok so details. Small round yellow pill for 10 mg. About half the size of the Mylan round one which must have double the fillers hah. Any pharmacy should be able to order this for you but I got mine at Rite Aid.

Teva is terrible but not from India . It's from Israel . Actually had ok luck with one Indian brand for the 12.5 Lupin (looks like the name brand) But the best in Winthrop 12.5 . 12.5 Sandoz is useless for me . There IR 10mg seem to be the only good 10mg left on the market since Qualitest s gone . There hard to find .

You can have your pharmacy order you Sandoz 10. I'm in my 2nd month now and I can not speak more highly of Sandoz. This thing is as good if not better than Qualitest and rock solid consistent. After going through the ordeal of like trying 20 different brands after Qualitest I can finally be at peace.

Chris M, based on your experience I checked at every pharmacy in my county and none had or could get Sandoz or can do special orders except, finally, Walgreen's. It's quite a trip to go there but I now have it, the 10mg. And guess what? Have been falling asleep on my own except waking up every night 2:30, 3:00, 4:00, when it's too late to take a pill as I have to be up early every day now. So I haven't tried it yet. It sits there like a promise, a hope. Sometime soon it'll happen.

Good luck Lily. Hoping it's the ticket for you like it is for me. I know all of our bodies are different though! As far as the pharmacies ordering brands for you, those are some really nazi pharmacies in your area! I mean none of mine in my area will proactively offer or tell you about requesting specific brands, but once you ask them its really not a big deal. They look up the brand in their system, find the NDC number, and then order it for you. Ask to talk to the pharmacy manager in your store if you have no luck with the frontline employees. I use Rite Aid btw.

Chris M., I did try Rite-Aid!! Was so surprised to have them say no. I did try the Sandoz Thursday night--a night when I think I probably would have slept eventually on my own. It worked within half an hour but then I did wake up 4 hours later but just stayed there lying in bed. Unlike the Torrent, Teva, Northstar, Mylan--I woke up with all of these too as soon as an hour but then it was like something was actively preventing me from going back to sleep and it was very frustrating and upsetting--but with the Sandoz I felt calm and sort of dreamy but didn't have any more real sleep. But then, although it was 8 hours from when I took the pill to when I got up, I was very very tired and doped-up and cranky until about 3:00 p.m. So that's a problem, as I had to travel and go to M.D., etc. and it seems to me that just elapsed time isn't enough to get this out of your system, you have to actually sleep it off. And that hasn't happened before with the Qualitest after 8 hours. I will try it again, no other choice.

What brand of Ambien does Publix use? I like the long peach colored pills best.

Long peach pills are Torrent 10mg.
Again, very mixed reviews of this generic

I have been on Zolpidem for 20 years and have had ALL the generics. It is definitely hit and miss with them all. All the "ones", (generic manufacturers) that really worked, are gone as we all know.
Through a mistake with a new doctor she wrote a prescription for Lunesta 3mg.
I've been on this now for several nights until they can write the Zolpidem again. I had no luck with sleep the first few nights... maybe an hour or so? All the things I read about it were true for me in the beginning....metallic taste in the mouth the next day... foggy head... food tasted differently....
All that did eventually cease. I do sleep at least 4 hrs give or take. It does take much longer to take effect, and having an empty stomach is essential.
I'm not sure what's going to happen when I go back on Zolpidem, but it's a small comfort to know this is an alternative.
This Lunesta generic is made by Dr.Reddy. I had great sleep with the Zolpidem manufactured by Dr.Reddy before they yanked that one.

The zolpidem peach from Torrent was the one that worked for me. I just received TEVA 74 white pill. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Even stranger, I cut it in half and half the pill works and the other half doesn't.

There's a rule about that--if a pill is scored (breakable along a center incised line), that means that the active ingredient is mixed uniformly throughout, so it should be equally active in both halves of the pill. If there is no score line, the active ingredient is not necessarily uniformly mixed in. That's why you might end up with one half working and the other not. Although why a manufacturer would end up with uneven mixing in any formula is beyond me.
