What Is The Best Generic Version Of Wellbutrin Xl - Watson Or Anchen? (Page 36)

Updated

My doctor will not prescribe generic Wellbutrin XL but my insurance will no longer pay for brand name drugs. I will have to pay about $7000 per yer for what I am taking now (3 of the 150mg Wellbutrin XL brand name per day). I am reading that the problem with the generics is the time release mechanism and not the drug itself and that some are better than others. Anybody have experience with the generics made by Watson and /or Anchen?

I feel very similar! I was taking Mylan XL 300mg, and Walgreens gave me Zydus this time. It has been terrible. I am hopeless, crying, and actually craving a cigarette! I am also extremely edgy and quick to react negatively. Zydus got this one wrong.

I was taking mylan and anchen back home at 150mg xl but I moved and can only get global and par and I feel very different. Upset, moody, lack of concentration and increased appetite without ever feeling full. I can't decide if I need a bigger dose or it's the change in manufacturer?

I would talk to your Dr, who may want to give you a higher dosage. When I told mine about the Zydus v. Mylan issue, he said I should ask my pharmacist to find/order the right generic brand. And if that didn't happen, he said, we would try something else.

i used the generic for a month..i had no choice. i did not know it was generic until i got home and opened up the pill bottle. i switched back to brand name generic and must pay 15 dollars to get it....my insurance covers the cost of generic and i pay the extra. if my doctor would prescribe "no substitutes" my trust fund money would cover it. however, he said he would not because he wants to save taxpayer money. and now i want a new doctor. trust fund money has nothing to do with tax money.

I was able to get a non-Zydus generic, but not Mylan. It is made by Actavis, and my symptoms have improved greatly--my house is clean, laundry is done, and I have been getting a lot more work done lately. I think it is on par with Mylan.

Has anyone managed to get mylan? The manufacturer said it should be available in October but I can't seem to find any

The manufacturer even said it was available now, but I had to go up the supervisory chain at my pharmacy to get them to check every day of the week before my refill was due. They still weren't able to order it, but that may be due to their company's relationship to the distributor. They are going to keep trying, they said. Hopefully, next refill I can get Mylan again.

Your story is identical to mine. I've been trying to figure out what is wrong with me all of the sudden over the past few weeks. So much that yesterday my friend told me to call my doctor and make an appointment to get my meds changed. I remembered that the last time that I picked up my prescription the pills looked different. SO I called the pharmacy and asked them to tell me the previous manufacturer of my Bupropion XL 300 mg. The ones I have now are manufactured by Zydus and my old manufacturer was Mylan. Honestly my symptoms feel like I just stopped taking antidepressants cold turkey and I'm having withdrawal symptoms. My last prescription that I got a couple of weeks ago was a 90 day supply. When I called the pharmacist they told me that I would have to get a doctor to write a prescription stating that I must have the Mylan brand in order for them to give me that prescription. Now I'm wondering if my insurance will even pay for another 90 day supply since I just got this one a couple of weeks ago. I have so many major things going on in my life right now. The fact that I'm in a downward spiral now on top of everything else is the absolute pics. So in saying all of that I just want to say thank you for your post because now I'm sure that this is what my problem is.

HP-- If you want, fill out the Medwatch report form in this link. If the FDA gets enough complaints, maybe they will take it off the market. It has only been manufactured by them since January 2014.

One thing to be aware of if you use Direct Success and you have insurance that will pay for the brand name: Direct Success tells your insurance company that they are collecting the co-pay from you, and then they just don't collect it. My flex spending account generated reimbursements to us for the co-pay. Because they bundle reimbursements together into single checks, I didn't realize it until I got my mid-year summary report from the prescription insurer a few weeks ago. I had to go through a bunch of hoops to get the money applied properly to other expenses. Otherwise you are committing tax fraud!

They are charging my insurance company $285.87 per month for this prescription. The fake co-pay that they are pretending to charge me is $122.51.

I am really torn about whether to continue to use it. Generic is $27.81/mo, and of the 3 batches of the Par brand that I got, one worked as well as brand did and as well as both the Teva and Watson generics did. I am really pissed that somehow the combination of the FDA actions on the 300mg and the FTC "anti-monopoly" actions in the drug mergers have resulted in both manufacturers of the best quality 150mg generic going out of the business of making it. That's the sort of "consumer protection" I can do without!

Before the merger, both Actavis and Watson made buproprion. I take the 150mg dose, and my experience was that I got one batch of Actavis that was like not taking anything, and one batch that was like taking real Wellbutrin. Then I went to Watson and for two years it was just like real Wellbutrin. Then the merger happened, and also the tests showing that the Watson 300mg wasn't the same.

So, anyway, the story of the merger is that Watson bought Actavis and the merged company is doing business under the Actavis name. They make a 150mg bupropion. Whether it is the superior product (used to be Watson) or the inferior product (used to be Actavis) or yet some new product which could be better than either of the old, or worse than both -- we have absolutely no way of telling except for reports like yours.

yes, change doctors or change your pharmacy and insist they give you exactly what you need - a doctor's note will do, so you may have to change doctors ~ too

So, I told y'all that I reported the Zydus batch of bupropion xl to the FDA. I didn't expect anything, I just had to tell somebody. Evidently, they have had other complaints, so the manufacturer (Zydus) called me to let me know they'd be testing it and asked if I wanted to receive the results. Heck yes, I do! So, I've been taking Activis bupropion for almost two months now, and it still isn't the same as the Mylan. It isn't nearly as bad as the Zydus, and it isn't $900/month brand name, so I guess it'll be alright. I wish Mylan would come back, though.
