What Helps Withdrawal Symptoms When Detoxing From Opiates

Updated

I'm an addict in search of relief from withdrawal symtoms associated with opiate addiction. I am going in to start suboxone treatment in 6 days but I need to be clean for 48 hours prior to seeing the doctor to get on the suboxone. I was just wondering if there is anything that will ease the pain and anxiety during those 48 hours. I've had addiction problems all my life and am absolutly an advocate of suboxone. I had great success with it for 2 years before I had 3 very tramatic things happen in a couple month spam and during that time was introduced to meth, to get off the meth I started opiates again. Now ready to try and work a program and to be able to live a functioning life, I go back to suboxone. Its a vicious cycle and I can tell anyone that has the luxury of living with out this disease (addiction), please don't patronize, we are in enough pain as it is and hate ourselves more than you could know.

Good for you for taking this step. Suboxone will help with the withdrawals tremendously. While stopping opiates, drink a lot of fluids, get a lot of rest, try to meditate or do deep breathing to help with anxiety. Not a whole lot is going to help you other than just getting through the first few days. Luckily with opiates, once you are past the initial few days, things get much better. Good luck!

This may or may not be something you're interested in, but according to my research there are a lot of people who find that using medical marijuana helps to keep them from using opiates, and helps with a number of withdrawal symptoms you might encounter.

I would just consider googling "using marijuana for opiate withdrawal" and evaluate what information you come across, to see if it's something for you.

Here is one link which suggests that it is a safe and effective alternative to other withdrawal options:

I hope this info helps!

Hi Deb,

I've actually come across some personal reviews after googling "taking suboxone with weed"; and some people say that it blocks the high you get from the marijuana to a large degree, while others say that it does quite the opposite. I can't really give a strait answer to that because of my findings; but I also haven't come across any statements that "don't" regard it as being safe to take them both together.

A handful of reviews I found said that the marijuana greatly increased their ability to cope with their WD symptoms, so I guess you really just have to try it and see if it works for you. Based on my investigations it appears to be a safe combination, however I'll post back if I find anymore information on this. Let me know if you have any info to add to this as well.

Marijuana helps with pain, anxiety, and nausea. All of which are part of withdrawal and pot is also prescribed for each symptom. I found it helpful so that I could stay hydrated and still eat some. Definitely helpful to me!
