What Companies Manfacture The Fentanyl Patches (Top voted first)

Updated

I can only buy one type of Fentanyl Patch from my drug store. I have read that other folks have access to the patch with the gel rather than the one without. When I first started using them, I got the ones with gel, was told later that they did not make them anymore. Is this true or not? The ones with gel helped me a lot more, the others without gel itch, won't stay on, and I sometimes I find that the patch is curled under because of the itching in my sleep. The ones with gel also gave me more relief and stayed on. I don't want to go to a larger patch - just one that works better as the gel patch did. I have no intention of any kind of abuse, I just want to get rid of as much pain as possible. I have been on patches for quite a while now, about 5 years, and I am tired of the patches curling, itching, and not giving me full relief. I am prescribed one 100 mcg patch every 48 hours along with breakout pain tablets. If anyone out there can help, I sure would appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi Kristin,

From what I could gather, Watson Laboratories, Inc. (now known as Actavis) appears to be the primary manufacturer of Fentanyl Patches.

Was it a pharmacist who told you that they didn't make the gel ones anymore? I was just thinking maybe you could ask your doctor to specifically write "gel or no gel" on the prescription itself, or even the national drug code (NDC) of the specific patch you want.

That would probably be the easiest approach if you don't want to deal with the hassle of trying to finagle them into handing you the correct version at the front counter.

Here's a link to the manufacturer's product page:

I hope this info helps!

Kristin, The gel patches definately work better..watson and sandoz are the 2 brands that make this type.I think that the flat patches might stay on better (12mg) Mylan but thats about all....not the best for pain management...If you have trouble keeping the patches on ask the pharmasist about Tegaderm patches..a clear cover that you put over the patch so they stay on. Also be careful in the bath or shower...do not get patches wet!! Can cause bad withdrawl problems...best to change patches and take bath same day....all the best..
