Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

I got a prolix injection 3 months ago and have had similar side effects that you describe. When did you have the injection? Was it last August and you still have such side effects?
I too have gained weight and feel bloated all the time.....

Daphne Young - I got my injection Feb.13/12 ,as stated I said my injection was to be once a year but I meant every six months. My next injection is Aug 13 but I will not be getting it as I have so many side effects. I don't know how long the side effects last. I am on oxyconcept for pain. I also have a spray for dry mouth as my salvia gland are not producing saliva. I was on Fosamax and it upset my stomach now the Dr want to try Actonel, but after reading the comments of other people with the same condition their side effects are really bad. Don't know where I go from here.

Hi,
Wow, I got an injection of Prolia on Feb 17! Will not go for the next one either. I am trying lots of vitamins, supplements (strontium citrate) and exercise and hope that will help. But feel so tired, bloated and achy from the shot that it is very challenging.
No one seems to know when it will wear off - I chose it over Reclast since I figured that it wouldn't last as long....
I too, don't know what to do next......good luck to you.

Daphneyooung - When I received the injection I registered with a company call Provital. I just called them and told them of all my symptoms and asked when the side effects would wear off. She said that the manufacturer of Prolia has no idea of how long the side effects last. She is going to report to them and tell them what is going on. Hope she gets an answer that we are all waiting for. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they come up with a good answer.

Do you have any other side effects as well? Like bloating, weight gain, fatigue, and diminished immune system?

Hi: I also have fluid in both ears and they ache all the time. My whole body feels like I have been hit by a bus, so much pain. a lot of water retension, my hands and feet are swollen. The Dr. said their wasn't anything he could do I will have to wait for the drug to wear off. Who knows when that will be.

I had the last injection of the 3 I have hat on September last year.
My specialist said it might take up to a year or longer before this is totally out of my body. I'm still having some symptoms, swollen feet, pain in joints and hands, recently also jaw and teeth.

Its been almost 14 months since my first injection of Prolia. I still have the same effects as before. Another bladder infection, acid reflex, just had an endoscope to see what is wrong with my bowels. Had cystoscope, antibiotics, my skin itches, have red blotches, and have trouble sleeping, body feels like its on fire inside - or I am cold when its warm outside. Its pure hell. Spoke with an Amengen rep, who dismissed my problems, and since no one knows how long the side affects will be there or permanent - I can't see the lumpy bony growths on my gums receding - and the dentist doesn't want anything to do with it. Says its torus, etc. Stay away from Prolia. Have ear fluid problems, eye problems and am very tired. Back hurts, on and on - my life is pure hell since that injection. I curse the doc that gave it to me, every day. Hope he will suffer as much as I am.

You just had one injection over a year ago? How was your health before the injection? What made you decide to go for it?

So have the side effects worn off for you? How long did it take?

You are fortunate. I had the shot 3 months ago and immediately got 3 colds one right after the other, but the weird mouth/gum issues, tingling in extremities and bloating and gas are constant. I never had such until Prolia, and would like to know when (and if) I will ever be back to normal.ZIOUE

My health was fine. December 19th I fell on the ice back of the house feeding the birds, fractured my wrist. Have no osteoporosis. Had the cast (THEY DID A LOUSY JOB, GAVE ME PROPOFOL.) Then saw the orthopedic clinic Jan 25th to get the cast off, the doc told me there is a new clinic Post Fracture Clinic with new medicine - well who will you believe. I had an appointment on April 7, 2011. After blood tests, my no osteoporosis tests - and the doc with another one sitting was very nice, talked about everything except, the side affects, gave me the shot, and said to see him in 6 months. Prolia sent me a brochure 10 days later, and it was written this should be given as a last resort, if all else fails? To call the nurse if I have any questions. I fell very tired and sleepy right away - and then got all numb on the left side and fell into bed May 19th, called Prolia, they said to go to ER - where they didn't even know what Prolia was. Had cat-scan of head, etc and sent home. I found later that I had water in my ear, and the jaws were hurting - June 1, my gums started getting large and bony - had cystitis - antibiotics etc - the doc said these were not the symptoms of Prolia - and didn't want to have anything else to do with me. Needless to say, I didn't get the 2nd injection. Prolia doesn't even know if and when the symptoms will disappear, every day there is something else that hurts, or sleep is bad, or gums and jaw hurts - and psychologically, it has destroyed me.
So, before anyone takes any type of injection, think of it, as you can't get it out of your system, like when you can stop a pill. For the Pharma, one shot - more money, less work then all the pills - guess who is the winner in this game???

Hi Ladies:-I was wondering if any of you have had a memory loss. The other day my husband and I went to the bank to take our U.S. Travellers Check put back into our account I took my car because I had to go to the Mall afterwards. After the bank I dropped my husband off at the house and headed for the Mall, but I ended up at Pharmacy Ave. And I don't remember a thing from the time I dropped my husband off until I got to Pharmacy Ave which by the way was in the opposite direction to the Mall. I feel bad for all of you because I know the kind of pain that you have. I am so sick of being in such pain all the time. It is really grreat to have a sight like this one and be able to compare symptoms and to know that you are not making things up. Thanks for your support.

So you still have side effects after over a year since the injection of Prolia?

Its not surprising that memory loss is a possible side affect from Prolia - as it is released into the brain stem, and into the blood vessels - it goes through your whole body, and every part is affected. I had a tear in my right retina in November. Thankfully I was seen by the specialist in time and had a laser repair it. Now I am seeing the doc every 6 months and am scared about my eyes. Ofcourse, Prolia people will deny, deny, and again, the gums and teeth are hurting me - and all the side affects, are still there now its 14 months - not much better. Its poison. PS I am 71 years old and was in good health. Used to be a speed walked, swimmer.
Now I have a hard time walking.

Faith:- Just got back from the Dr. and he doesn't know when the side effects wil wear off. Because my hands and feet are sore and swollen he said I have Arthritis. I told him it wasn't arthritis that these problems started just after the Prolia injection,so he sent me for a blood test to see if the Prolia has affected my kidneys because of the swelling. Should get a report sometime next week. I am 73. Because I have fibromyalgia he is saying that is whats causing my pain. I sure told him that the pain was completely different. I don't know why they are keeping these problems so Hush Hush. Even my pharmacy said oh all you would probably get is a rash. He said he would look into it.

I had the Prolia shot Dec. 31. 2011 and am due for the 2nd one June 30. I will not get the 2nd shot. My life has been pure misery since the Dec. shot. My whole body aches, my jaw is tired. The pain seems to travel throughout my body. It may start in my neck, and then go to my back, etc. etc. I was perfectly fine before the shot, but because my blood work came back with a diagnosis of early stage of osteoporosis my doctor suggested Prolia. I should have been smart enough to research this drug!! I keep wondering how long I will have to endure this pain!!! Fortunately I have been able to continue with my job, but don't know what I would do without Aleve. It helps me get through the day and night.

Joyce, do not take another Prolia shot - its been 14 months, and I am still feeling sick, with bladder infections, rashes, terrible itches. my spine feels on fire and hurting - nothing has changed since I got that shot April 7, 2011. I count the days - but today I was so tired, I was dragging and had to sleep, not like me at all, always on the go Slept all afternoon - feel a bit better but still tired and can't wait for 8PM to go back to bed, if I don't wake up during the night, burning hot or cold - eyesight changed - oh yes the docs will tell you stories, by acid reflex is bad, can't even drink a sip of water - the jaw hurts, the gums are swollen - have the best water pick, do the dental floss, spend 1/2 hr maing sure that my teeth are not going worse - nothing helps, still have these lumps, and torus growing - whatever you do, do not take anything by injection - sorry you have to go through this - I hope the docs are rejoicing for causing so much pain and suffering

Today, I had my second injection...so far only a few aches. After my first shot, I had a few days of body aches, which disappeared after 3-5 days. Much easier than dealing with the side effects of Actonel, Fosamax or Boniva, which caused weekly and monthly pain.
