Pain Med For Ostereoathritics

Previous taken a couple of prescribed drugs for lower back pain. Last drug was Hydrocodon-Acet 10-500. Call dr. back in 3 days, no improvement. He prescribed the Fentanyl patch. I would like to try something stronger, but not Fentanyl. I'm only on an antidrpressant; 66 years old.

I understand, that is a huge jump from the Hydrocodone to the Fentanyl and it can be too much for some people, plus it doesn't leave you anywhere to go later, since it's pretty much the strongest there is available.

Have you tried Hydromorphone or Oxycodone?

They would be options that are more in-between, so to speak, instead of taking such a huge jump.

I have had back issues for years, been on everything imaginable, even the Fetanyl Patch,which almost killed me, litterally ths year. FINALLY,my doctor gave me several cortisone shots in my back and upper legs.........my pain was GONE in 1 day! Actually the pain started to go away within 15 mins. I cannot believe after suffering for so long, about 30 years or so....finally I was given cortisone!?!?! Now I have to try to get off the pain killers...! I hate those pills...and on top of it all, I have suffered from migraines since i was a child (I am 73 years old) so more pain meds. Hopefully the cortisone will eventually help the migraines, that sure would be nice!!!! Good luck with your pain management but just some advice, get off the pain pills if possible, they are killers....eventually!!!!
