On Methadone With Chronic Knee And Back Pain.. Why?
UpdatedI am on 130 mgs of methadone and recently fractured the inside of my knee joint and have severe lower back pain. The meth is not helping with the pain, why?? My doctor gave me 30 mg oxycodone and that did help but he will not keep prescribing, he said I have to go to pain mng. Will they give me a hard time since I'm on methadone???

All I can say is pain meds are a terrible way of treating chronic pain and generally end up causing more pain because you become very sensitive to any pain. Addiciton usually occurs in the process without even realizing it. My suggestion is that when you stop taking opioids the pain gets better.
Sounds like you're addicted already
This is actually not a sign of addiction, but rather a sign of tolerance.
The reason the Methadone isn't helping your pain is simply because your body is used to the current dose you are taking.

An no, doctors at a pain management clinic shouldn't give you a hard time about being on the Methadone, since they are very familiar with how tolerance works.

i cant even believe jayell wrote such rediculous answer.
for those of us that have chronic pain, meaning the pain never LEAVES, EVER! I would have absoluelty no life at all.
this medication allows me to go shopping for food, go to doctor appts. it even allows me to go to the movies once in awhile.
yes you become addictidd to it, but that doesnt mean all pain patients take their medication irresponsibly.
in answer to your question, no i dont think they will give you a bad time, they will probpyl up your mgs a little bit, for a short while.
dont worry about.
jayell, for 3 yr i juismped thru evey hoop the doctors made me, before they would treat me with apin medication.
I sopend thousands of dollars, on accupuncture hypnosis, biofeed back, every alternative treatment i could think of.
none of them worked.
for 3 yrs i suffered, became a recluse and wanted to die. im 5'8" i went from a healthy athletic 130 lbs to 85 lbs, BECAUSE OF PAIN.
just go away, you dont have chronic pain, you dont know what you are talking about.
Methadone is very cheap, and isn't the sort if drug that is abused.it is recognized as a pm med so you will not be given a hard time about it.methadone is also very difficult to get off as the withdrawal lasts much longer than other opioids.upping the dose or changing meds will be up to the pm clinic, but either way you are much better off at a clinic than just a gp.
First i would like to thank everyone for their advice. I have no problem admitting that I'm addicted to opiods. But I have been up to 290 mgs of methadone and in the tapering off stage because it was effecting by body chemistry, like my hormone levels and thyroid and wanted to be off everything all together.
Then this happened!
The last thing I want to do is go back up on meth for a lot of reasons(listed above) but mainly because my body is so used to that medication that it does not work for any pain so it's pointless plus all my tapering effert will be for nothing
Re: sharon (# 4)
Sounds like he's on there side to me.He probably doesn't live with pain as we do.Its easy for people to comment negatively on something they haven't experienced. Sorry not being mean just speaking my opinion.
