Over Charging For Generic Hydrocodone/acetaminophen (Top voted first)

Updated

I use CVS for all my needs for healthcare. On 03/19/2015 I needed a prescription filled,(Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen) asap my son took the prescription to CVS said can't fill it,out of it. So I said I will take ALEVE (lots) he said no Momma Your really hurting so we will try Walgreens. At first they refused because I am not a customer of WALGREENS, watching me; Pharmacists said just this one time, (90) pills and here it is 04/17/2015 and only 12 pills left. Normally the 90 pills last me for 70 days plus/minus so this was a really bad time for me. So with a new prescription in hand I went to CVS id Deland, FL because I get all my Meds and Personal items there & other items. I discussed with my DR that generics do not work for me and he wrote out a new prescription for Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen and not a Generic. Guess what it's a generic made for NORCO. Strange enough Walgreens only Charged me $19.25 cents while CVS charged me $56.14. According to my research generics should be cheaper. The $56.14 is about what I have been paying for the better grade HYDRO/ACETA, medication. Something very wrong here. I may be old but not stupid. You know I am a real CVS shopper, my information just recently filed on my income tax gives 98% of all personal & medical needs to CVS. Hope you will and can justify this charge for my medication.

Hi LouLou, hope you're doing well and sorry to hear about what you've been dealing with. First, please note that this site is not affiliated with CVS or any other pharmacies / healthcare companies.

So, if I understand you correctly, are you saying that $56.14 was the price of the generic from CVS, but the same medication was only $19.25 at Walgreen's? Or was the $56.14 when you were actually taking the brand Norco versus the generic form which was less $$?? That seems like such a big difference. Did they run your insurance or anything else differently between the 2 places? I'm just trying to understand why that might have happened to you. At the very least I'd call CVS to tell them about this since maybe they've been making a mistake.

What can I say. These Pharmacies all have their own companies that make their medicines. We the people are caught in the middle especially seniors and no one to turn., When the scare about a so called shortage in Hydrocodone Acetaminophen showed all the red flags went. So pharmacies quietly fill the script. we get home & realize we have been given a generic for the same price as the real thing. As a matter of fact I filled a prescription for OMPERZOLE - (PROZAC) 50 mg and CVS gave me a generic for the same price I have paid for the real thing. It is called a ripoff of the public. LouLou

LouLou , your dr knows that if he doesn't want a patient to be given a generic, he has to specify on the rx No Generic Substitution Allowed. If your prescription bottle says Prozac it is Brand. But, if it says Omperzole, it is Generic.

I needed the Hydrocodon-Acetaminophen 5-325 , CVS couldn,t fill it so we went to Walgreens who filled it (90 pills for $19.---) which surprised me. Have been taking this Pain medicine for approx. 3years,prescribed by Orthopedic Dr.At the time 90 pills lasted me 3 months Script read 1 pill 3 times a day as needed for back. once in a while took more. After the news broke about a socalled shortage I said well watch for one of two things (an increase in price or generics for the same price), HELLO"" Without asking CVS uses a generic for same price as the DRUG from NARCO. When I questioned the price CVS Pharmacist said that it was not a generic, Sure looked like it smaller with specks of Red. So my Dr will specify no generics. I have to take 2 to 3 of the generic Hydrocodon/Acetaminophen more often for relief.I try to take ALEVE for help. Its all about money too bad, We seniors are caught in the middle. LuLu

Lou Lou something is wrong with those 5/325 with red specks!! They are formulated differently and do not work with my body. Actavis bought watson. Although WADS norcos still say watson on there they are not the old formula, be careful with walgreens all the way around. if i hadn't secured a better pharmacy and was forced to go elsewhere i would have my dr write medically necessary.
