Nerve Pain On Accutane

i have been on Accutane for three months now, first two on 20mg and started the 3rd month on 40mg. After upping the dose, I got severe nerve pain in my mouth, initially I thought it was my teeth so I went to the dentist and discovered it wasn't my teeth nor gums (which was a bonus) however the pain lasted on and off for over a week which I can only describe as an intermittent electric shock feeling which painkillers have not helped with. I have tried contacting my Dermatologist but have had no response. Has anyone else had this as a side effect?

Yes, that can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the U.S. FDA. You may also experience nausea, skin rash, abdominal pain, diarrhea and depression.

Has anyone else that's taken it experienced this side effect?

Catherine, I don't know that much about accutane and nerve pain, I'm not saying it doesn't cause it though but I have Trigeminal Neuralgia and I have nerve pain in my face and sometimes it stays in my mouth. I pray you don't have this. It is only on one side of the face as if a line was drawn down it. Does the pain go on both sides of your mouth? Also, there isn't any pain pill out there, that can touch the pain.

Hi Catherine. ..I was on Accutane many many years ago. When I was prescribed it...they sent me home with this huge book to read over n I had to sign a consent that I read and understood all that was involved in takin Accutane. ....this med can be very dangerous and has all kinds of crazy side effects so don't brush off anything you might b feeling. It made my body ache n hurt so bad I had to stop. Accutane has many many side effects so more than likely what ur feeling is a side effect. Stay on top of ur dermatologist n get in to see her/him to make sure it's nothing serious or if u need ur dosage changed. Good luck!
