My blood pressure is 110/70, Why did my MD order Metropolol Tartrate 25mg.? ## 110/70 sounds like a reading within the normal blood pressure range. I'm not sure why you would have been prescribed Metoprolol (since it is typically used to treat high blood pressure). What did your doctor say with regards to why it has been prescribed to you? What Is The Difference Between Metropolol 25 mg Er And Metropolol 25 mgTart? ## The ER stands for extended release, that means that formulation of Metoprolol is slowly released in your body, over time, rather than all at once, like the standard medication that the other one is. Sometimes, when a patient is taking the regular release to treat high blood pressure or a cardiac condition, it helps, but doesn't keep it under control for a very long period of time and in those cases, it may be necessary for a doctor to switch someone to the time released formulation, to keep the medication in their body longer. Metoprolol is a beta blocker and may cause side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, headache and stomach pain. Learn more: Are there any other questions or comments?

why is my feet and hands cold after taking metoprolol ## Metoprolol is a selective beta receptor blocker that is used to treat high blood pressure and other cardiovascular diseases. The reason that your hands and feet may feel cold, after taking it, is because it can reduce blood flow to those areas. If you smoke or drink alcohol, it can worsen this effect, Most blood pressure medications can cause similar effects. Other side effects may include: nausea, headache, dizziness and stomach pain. I have been taking this drug every morning for several years now and my blood pressure is under control. Is it possible it is causing me to be quite lethargic 3 to 4 hours later or do I mark it up to my 76 years. Thanks ## It is very hard to say what might be causing it, in this case. Yes, it could be the medication itself, it could be age related, it could be your blood pressure going to low or several other health problems. Have you consulted your doctor about it? The highest possibility is probably age related, because you are going to be more sensitive to medications like this, so it may be making it drop a little too low. Doctors usually have to watch for this and make sure that they adjust your medication accordingly. Learn more:

hello I need to know if this RX that I am on is considered under the "beta blocker" catagory or not? As I was on another form of blood pressure med that was under the beta blocker form. Can you let me know asap. thanks. ## please check out the side effects, I am trying to get off this med!!! ## Yes, Metoprolol is definitely in the Beta Blocker drug class, it is considered a selective Beta Blocker. What problems are you having with it? Some people are very sensitive to these medications and can suffer severe side effects from them, such as: nausea, dizziness, headache and abdominal pain. I was on it for a short while and had to stop taking it and switch to something else, due to the severe problems it caused me. If you are looking for an alternative to control your blood pressure...
