I have been taking metoprolol tarta since my partial hip replacement. This would be for the last 10 days. Was put on it at the rehab due to a little high blood pressure. 50 mg's in the morning and 50 at night. I never had to get up during the night. Now 4 to 5 times a night to go to the bath room . I called my Family Doctor and told him, what they have me on and what is was causing. He said only take a 50 Mg in the morning and none at night. Since I have done that. My nightly 4 to 5 times a night has stopped. Is this a dieretic drug ? stopped taking it and the bathroom night visits has stopped

Ricky, it can take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks for the side effects to hit their peak in intensity and start to taper off. That's generally about how long it takes for your body to adjust to the medication.

What you really have to do is decide whether or not it is too much and too severe for you to deal with. If it is, then by all means talk to your doctor about trying something else.

If you need to ask your doctor about trying something different, you may want to ask about Carvedilol, it is a similar medication that is used to treat the same types of conditions. But, it is known to cause fewer side effects.

It is the same medication, the tarta is for tartrate and is just a long version of the name that designates the chemical salt. Some pharmacies use it on the labels and some don't.

Metoprolol is a beta blocker that is used to treat high blood pressure and some cardiac conditions.

It may cause side effects, such as: nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain.
