Methadone Stopped My Periods (Page 9)

Can any of the women out there tell me if taking methadone stopped thier periods? I have been on methadone for 4 years now and as soon as I went over 35mg it completely stopped and It has not come back since. I am on 60mg now. I did get lowered to 30 mg at one time years ago and it started right up again. Does anyone know if this might be dangerous? I have asked my doctor at the meth clinic and she stated its nothing to be concerned about because I wanted to know if I should be taking something to make it start and she said no, but for some reason it seems that it just does not sound good for a natural process to stop like that and not have it do any harm. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I too started on methadone six months ago. 60mls? I also have had no periods, severe pain in my ankles in the mornings and severe sweating, severe back pain? I spoke to my worker about this also and similar to yourself she said it was nothing to worry about as "contraceptive pills have the same effect?". I feel this is something to worry about as a period is your bodies natural balance and my uterus should be expelling a lining when I'm not pregnant!!! The other side effects also concern me. I get so frustrated as I feel as "just another junkie" I don't get taken seriously and don't want to find out in years to come (I'm 38 at the moment) that this s***ty poison is knocking years off my life and making me infertile!! I have an appointment to see my doc next week and if they too say it is nothing to worry about I WILL BE ASKING FOR A SECOND/THIRD/FOURTH opinion and will see a gynecologist, specialist until someone gives me the answers I think we all deserve. I do know that methadone being an opiate affects your hormone levels? But I also know that an unbalanced hormone level can contribute to serious illnesses, without wanting to scare anyone.

I was just in big tears about this today because I will be 41 in a week. I've been on methadone for almost 4 years. They started me at 30mg, and I've been on 130mg for about a year. Sounds like a lot, but I'm completely drug free!! The reason I'm in tears is because I'm not married yet, and I don't have any children. Drugs put a big pause in my dream of becoming a mom. I just got new insurance, but I'm so afraid to find out that I've already gone through some early menopause or something! I had my last period the 3rd month at clinic. The truth is scary, but maybe there is some hope for me to have kids still. I can't just stop taking methadone cold turkey, ya know? I don't know what to do or how to feel.

Please update me on your progress with the doc!! I am freaking out a bit, and I'm not sure which kind of doc to really see. Been on methadone for about 4 years and haven't had a period in almost the same amount of time. I don't have children, and desperately want them (especially now that I am clean for so long!!) I am 40 and very sad, if I missed my chance because I was so stupid popping pulls for so long. I'm on 140mgs of methadone now. Help with advice please!

I have been on methadone for six years now and it was making my periods skip every other month now I don't get it at all now. Sometimes I'll have symptoms of a period but it just start my period.

My period stopped since 12/01/2016. It came once in 2016 & 4 times in 2017. I've now been detoxing so it's been regular for 2 months. I was on 550 mg of methadone and I am now on 88 mg and it destroyed my body from the inside out, but yes it was bad enough to start my period for 15 years.

I have been on Oxys for 10 years and always had normal periods, I started methadone 3 months ago and haven't had a single period, it has to be the Methadone

So you are able to still get pregnant even if your periods stop?

Its crazy because i been asking to it just does not seem normal i hv been on methadone for 3yrs and hv not had a period for at lease 10months know it just seem so crazy how it just went away in i been on 80 milligrams for 1yr and half

Ladies, I'm back after about 6-8 months. I have been on 70 mg for a year-and-a-half now and when I started I didn't get my period for 7 months. And when I finally dit it waz sooo it was very light and 2-3 days. (Which I've never experienced in my life until then) I have suffered so much with me reproductive system with very early stage 1a1 cervical cancer and heavy periods that lasted weeks, (one time a year and a half STRAIGHT) needless to say I have been happy with not getting my period. But I cannot help but worry, because as we all know this is when our reproductive system naturally cleans itself. So I have had my period twice after the first time and both very light. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

It is completely normal to not have your periods with any daily usage of opiates. You would be harder pressed to find someone who is having their cycle on opiates. With that being said, you may still be ovulating, as I am likev clockwork

Hi Sylvia,

As soon as I started methadone my periods completely stopped. In 4 years I've had 3 periods in 4 years. My periods were like clock work before methadone. I don't know if I'm ovulating and not having a period. I have a IUD put in because I don't want to get pregnant. I'm 34 by the way. My friend also had the same thing happen when she got on methadone.
