Meniere's Cause

Updated

I believe that my Meniere's was a result of off label use of Nerontin for back nerve pain which caused my Meniere's. I learned side effects from meds often never goes away even if you stop the drug.
As you may know the company that produces Neurontin was sued by the US Department of Justce for the flagrant marketing of the drug to doctors very secretly for off label uses. The company made something like $2 Billion dollars from the off label marketing. There was a whistle blower who had letters and email that showed the company secretly was asking their sales people to market the drug for off label use. The government prevailed in the suit and a large sum was awarded. Those dollars were passed out to each state's attorneys general to set up programs to help make the public aware of the problem. No money went to patients. You may be aware that no drug company is suppose to market any drug or procedure for off label use.
I have learned that t is not advisable to ever use a drug other than what t has been approved fr by the FDA.
I believe that many drugs might cause Meneires in patients without the patient being able to identify that the drug was the cause. It seem's that most drugs list dizziness as a possible side effect. What they don't clearly tell us is that the dizziness may be permanent. Isn't it possible that various medications cause the change in the ear and thus the symptoms? It is not outside the realm of possibilities. Perhaps if enough research was done they could find this out, but the drug companies and probably the FDA would not be pleased if any of those drugs turned out to contribute to Meneire's. The amount if revenue the companies could lose would be in the billions. And they would have to start to try to find the little tiny factors in various drugs that cause permanent exposure to dizziness. Really the only thing they use to establish the Meneire's diagnosis is determining if you get dizzy from all of the terrible things they put one through to diagnose. There is no cat or pet scan or anything else that can definitely determine Meneire's. No clinical work ups that can demonstrate definitively that, "Oh yes we see from your scan that X is damaged and that is why you are dizzy". Isn't that rather odd? Not knowing why is very different that not even having a test to determine definitively that one has it. How many people have had numerous doctors shrug and not really be able to explain why YOU developed this disease? The most common and easiest answer is just to say you must have had an ear infection. I have never in my life had an ear infection so I have never been satisfied as to what organic change in the body causes it. At this time no physician can tell Meneire's patients what caused the change. Meniere's is actually a name Dr. Meneire gave to a group of symptoms, they can't officially call it a disease because they don't know enough about it. It is simply a group of symptoms.
What is with that? We need and deserve to have that determined before they can work on a real cure, not just treatment.
