Levoythyroxine 25 Mcg And Thyroid Antibodies - Side Effects Hair Loss

Hello to all: I am new here and have normal TSH, T3, T4 levels (completely normal) and first had very slightly elevated TPO antibodies of 21.8 (upper limit of normal 20.0) then on repeat 19.1 (within normal limits). However, I also suffer from chronic hives and dermatographism and there is some literature with individuals being treated with very low doses of Levothyroxine (Synthroid) of 25 mcg that may (or may not) help the condition. My MAIN concern is that I already have fairly thin hair and I am SO worried about hair loss which I have read can occur on this medication. Have any of you suffered hair loss on just 25 mcg? If this is a common side effect then I think I am just going to live with the hives - have already been through one bout of watching my hair fall out when I was on a combination of medications and I really don't think I can watch that happen again -- if it does this time I would certainly have to seriously think about getting a wig. Thank you for all your thoughts -- I am wondering for those who did test positive for elevated Thyroid antibodies just how high yours were. I have been told that mine are essentially within normal limits.

I have never taken it, but I do know several people that have and from them, as well as from the medication monograph, hair loss is a very common side effect, even with the lower dosages.

There is no way, however, to say that it will happen to you.

Have you discussed your concerns with your doctor?

I have taken this med at this dose and didn't have this problem. However, people who have Hashimoto thyroiditis as I do and sounds as if you may, often have anemia. Have you had your iron levels checked? People with thyroid issues have trouble absorbing iron due to low hydrochloride acid levels. Hair loss is a symptom of anemia. I have to have IV iron infusions because of this. Symptoms of anemia are very similar to hypothyroid issues.
