Levothyroxine Overview

Levothyroxine, also known as L-thyroxine, is a manufactured form of the thyroid hormone, thyroxine (T4).[3][4] It is used to treat thyroid hormone deficiency including the severe form known as myxedema coma. It may also be used to treat and prevent certain types of thyroid tumors. It is not indicated for weight loss. Levothyroxine is taken by mouth or given by injection into a vein. Maximum effect from a specific dose can take up to six weeks to occur.[3] Side effects from excessive doses inc...

I just started taking Levothyroxine 2 wks ago my legs and feet are swollen so bad by nite I can barley walk. They go down a little at nite but swell back. I am taking 25mcg and I am afraid to continue taking this med. Has any one else had this problem? ## Have you contacted your doctor? It sounds like you might be having a bad reaction to this medication and it may not be the right one for you, or may be too high of a dosage. Generally, the symptoms of a dosage being too high will start to manifest 6 days or so, after you start taking it and this type of fluid retention can be one of them and there is a chance that it could lead to congestive heart failure, if that's what's causing it and it isn't rectified. You should really contact your doctor immediately. ## I am on medic...

A friend has taken 20 pills of thyronorm 25mcg out of hysteria.. What might be the repercussions? Please reply urgently. ## If you have reason to fear for the life and health of a loved one, you should contact your nearest emergency services or take them to the nearest emergency department, rather than posting online and waiting for an answer. And overdose of any medication is dangerous and risks death, organ damage and other serious health repercussions. High doses of the Levothyroxine in this creates the risk of seizures, strokes, heart palpitations and extremely high blood pressure. Even if she showed no ill effects, at the time she took them, she needs to see a doctor, because she could have done other damage to her body. How is she doing? ## I take 50mcg thyronorm daily. What if i t...

I hope someone can help! I am 53 years old and 5 feet tall and weigh 118 lbs. I never have had any symptoms . I went to my doctor 3 weeks ago and she tells me I have to go on medication for life! She did run blood work twice. I wish I knew my levels so could tell you but I don't. She started me on 50mcc a day of levothyroxin. The only symptom I am having right now is a little fuzzy memory. If I didn't have any symptoms do I really have to take meds for the rest of my life? I am a healthy eater and exercise on a regular basis and happy with my life. Can someone help. I don't take any meds besides supplements. ## Hi Becky, I’m not going to tell you to ignore your doctor’s advice, but I’m really glad my dad did when they told him he only had 6 months to live d...

levothyroxine tis indeed evil
19 Replies RSS
I've taken this medication on and off for years. New endo- thought we should try again, despite my very educated disapproval. Switched from armour to levo-112mcg and cytomel (t3) -5mcg. I almost forgot what it felt like to be so ill. It's only been a week, but it's been horrific. Heartburn, cramps, nausea, painful bloating, night sweats (let me rephrase, more like night swimming.) And yes, more acne. At almost 40, I look like a 15 yr. old pubescent boy. Charming. This is morning sicknesses and intestinal flu all wrapped up in a pretty pink pill. So for those of you that are new to this, its a long haul, and there are other meds out there. Be persistent, if after two months symptoms do no subside-look further. Some of us just can not tolerate this sorry excuse of a medication...

Stopping Levothyroxine
113 Replies RSS
I have been taking Levothyroxine .88mg for the past two years. I just left town on a three week vacation and realized I left this prescription at home. Should I be concerned? ## If you suddenly stop taking Levothyroxine, your body can go through withdrawal. "Levothyroxine withdrawal may cause hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid. Hypothyroidism causes weight gain, fatigue, depression and sensitivity to cold because your body does not have enough thyroid hormone so your body processes slow down. Patients with thyroid cancer may suffer acute hypothyroidism because of levothyroxine withdrawal." Referenced from: livestrong.com/article/levothyroxine-withdrawal Since you've been taking this medication for so long, I would consider contacting your doctor about this if you have be...

I was recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I have been taking levothyroxine for almost two weeks. For the last four or five days I have had a weird feeling. It is hard to explain. I don't really feel dizzy but I get a strange feeling in my head. I guess you would describe it as a head rush. Has anyone else had this feeling and will it go away as my body adjusts to the levothyroxine? ## yes i would get that every morning after i took my pills and drank coffee. I think its inmortant to eat a little over an hour after to avoid the dizziness. It does go away though. ## Levothyroxine Info and Side effects Click Here ## my pharmactist changed my thyroid pills because my insurance doesn't cover my other ones. I am cold all the time again and i am dizzy. I came home from work...

I am having trouble controlling my blood sugars since starting levothyroxine 150 mcg 2 weeks ago after having my thyroid removed, I am on diabetes medication and have been for years and it has been under control and now I am getting crazy highs and lows. Is anyone else having this problem? my Dr. tells me there is no interaction but when I looked it up online it said there was and by the way I am feeling I tend to believe what I read.. any information would be appreciated.. thanks! ## U also need T3 which is Cytomel (or the generic Liothyronine SOD); this is to counter balance the T4 Levothyroxin u've bn taking. The only med that has both is Armor thyroid natural glandular which is hard to come by. ## You may also ask for Synthroid instead of the generic version, Levothyroxine. I kn...
