How fast will the lizness begin to work? I have to go to work and don't want to be running up and down statues all day.

Hi Gil,

While some patients report having bowel movements on the first day from taking Linzess (Linaclotide), others mention that it took up to a few weeks before it really kicked into gear for them. With that said, the only real way to see if it will work for you is by actually trying it and committing yourself to a full course of treatment.

I guess you're supposed to take it 30 minutes before eating or drinking in the morning, but I don't know if that has an impact on it's overall effectiveness throughout the rest of the day. The patient prescribing information notes that symptoms of diarrhea often begin within the first 2 weeks of treatment. So I'd imagine that would be a good time-frame to gauge if it's actually working or not.

You may want to take the day off from work if you're taking it for the first time. I pooped constantly for 5 hours straight. Other times I pooped my pants. They had to lower my dose. It works different for everyone though.

Hi all, I just started my first dose of Lizness 145mcg this morning, my GI specialist gave me samples, took it about 2 hrs ago and already don't like the way I feel, it would be for the IBS C. I will probably never take this medication again, and was just wondering if anyone knew how long it takes for a single dose to get out of your system. Hopefully within 24hrs. I had read the posts about the bloating and gas and diarrea, boy do i have it, horrible feeling.

Gil, When I take Lizness in the morning before eating it takes up to 1hr or 2 to work. sometimes it doesn't work. I will have a BM only once. When this starts I had better be near a restroom. So it really messes up my day as I have to wait at home unless I know there is a restroom where I am going. I don't know what I am going to do as I have to start a new job soon and my starting time will be at 6AM. Be Well.

I just started this medication 3 days ago an I still have yet to have a BM so I think honestly it just depends on the person because I've read were some people say they take it an have major diarrhea then others like myself that can't go at all. So it justs depends on the person.
