Help Identify Part Of A Pill

Updated

Found this pill portion on the basement counter where my son gets ready for school. Any help id'ing it would be great, as he's been thru rehab as well as counseling. Hoping he's still clean, but I'm going to be vigilant while he's living back home. Any help is appreciated so much!

Hi Steven - could you please share as many details as you can about this piece of the pill which you found? What color is it? It is more rounded like a pill, or oblong like a tablet? Are there any number of letters appearing on that piece? Hoping it's maybe just part of an over the counter tablet or something.

Thank you for your reply. I didn't realize that I had completely forgotten to post what little features the broken portion of pill has.

This pill is white, with a brown/gold center. The pill was broken in a way that tells me it was oblong, but broken totally off center. The only identifying numbers are "NI" on one side, more than likely part of a word, etc, and the backside has a "2" a"Z" or "5" visible. It's hard to tell. Thanks!

Hi Steven,

This is a bit of a gamble, but I did find a white round pill with the word "LUPIN" (imprinted in the shape of a rainbow) on one side (possibly giving the illusion of an oblong pill) and "2.5" on the back. Depending on how you hold it, I imagine that it could be "NI" or "IN". Lupin Pharmaceuticals may also produce other pills with this type of imprint as well. So if you're able to, I would encourage you to contact this company directly at: [email protected]. I'm not aware of any other manufacturers or drug names that correspond with the letters, though I'm sure they probably exist somewhere.

Also, this particular pill reportedly contains 2.5mgs of Lisinopril, which is usually prescribed for hypertension.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the extra details Steven. As far as the information you shared, I concur with David that it MIGHT be a part of the word "LUPIN". I was going through products from that manufacturer and came across an image where the half segment of the pill contains the letters "IN" on one side, and then it would also have the # 2 on the back side. Have a look:

If you think this might be the tablet you found, then it is actually CEFUROXIME 250mg, which is an antibiotic. (Per NDC page 68180-302). Anyways, good luck and let me know if this might be what you found. If you do end up contacting the manufacturer, can you let us know what they said? It would be really helpful for everyone if a positive ID is made.
