Heavy Head Feeling

Updated

Hello, I was given gabapentin for unknown nerve disorder. I get shocks all through my body which are very painful. I have many other problems also. Anyway this is my 1st time I took it and it was 300mg. My head feel likes it weighs 500 lbs and I feel like I am heavily drugged and not with it. It is also causing pain on the scar on my head (another story lol ) and my neck.
My question is would you keep taking it. They want me to add another pill tomorrow and another (3 total) the next day. I'm thinking I need to just get off them. It didn't really help the zaps too. I would appreciate any feed back ..TY

Hello, Jmade123! How are you?

That's not a normal side effect for Gabapentin, the FDA lists them as typically including nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and weight gain.

As to helping the shocks that you get, it wouldn't work that fast, because it's not an actual analgesic. It usually takes about 4 weeks to reach its full level of efficacy in your body.

Have you contacted your doctor? I think that would be the best thing to do.

Hello Verwow and Thank you for replying! I decided to go off Gabapentin. I had called my Dr and she lowered the dosage and it still made me sick and for the 1st time ever I had a nightmare about dying. It was awful!!! I also felt drunk still so it was good bye Gaba for me. Unfortunantely I have nothing to help with my electric like shocks and other stuff. I do have an appt with a neuro now and am having an Endoscopy for my choking/swallowing problems. Supposed to get my lyme results yesterday so I am hoping I will hear back today. Fingers crossed I will find something to stop all this. I wish it were b-12 but my levels were fine. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them :)

Sometimes there just isn't any explanation to be had. You may have just developed some type of nerve disorder and may never know why.

It is similar to people with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, they are clearly suffering, but why is never actually explained.

When do you see your doctor?
