Has Any Long Term Fentanyl Patch User Tested Negative On A Urine Test

The man I give care to has had a fentanyl patch on consistently for 2+ years. For the last 3 months he has tested NO fentanyl in his urine! These specimens were taken WHILE he was wearing his patch. What is going on? Any ideas?

I am caregiver for a 74 year old male with multiple health problems. He has been in severe pain stemming from an accident about 8 years ago. He takes Percocet and has been using the 75mcg Fentanyl patch for the pain for the past few years. Starting in Sept. 2013 he has tested 3 times negative for Fentanyl in his system using a urine test. I personally apply the patch, and personally remove the patches and can attest that he has consistently worn the patch for at least 2 years. The pain Doctor has accused him/me/us of not using his patches and either "sharing or selling" them. When I asked if he could do further testing or investigating, he replied he "wasn't going to waste his time." I am not only stunned, but terribly confused and frustrated as to what course of action I should take. The patches were not miracle workers for his pain, but they certainly helped him cope. So not only am I concerned about him physically, but I am very offended at the accusations since my job is to GIVE CARE to my people and would never seek to cause harm. I can think of no reason for these tests to return negative excepting for inferior medication on the patches (which it seems COULD BE possible and would not be something to get angry about....just would need to know the truth) or my patient is not absorbing the medication. Is that possible? I need to know and plan to continue in my pursuit of an explanation. I just want to know WHAT'S GOING ON! Thank you so much for any response!

Kimmie nurse or no nurse degree or not u are wrong dead wrong On this topic because NO on a 8 or 12 panel urine screen fentanyl DOES NOT show up as opiate I guarantee u are completely wrong I am not a dr I do not know the reason behind this but I do know for a fact u are incorrect !!

They need to do a specific test for fentanyl. I was also accused of this. Mydr.thank god took the time to call a pathologist to find out how this was possible since I was just in the emergency room and given iv fentanyl the night before my UA.

I worked for a client who complained she still felt pain even with the patches on. And Dr. Took tests and saw no medicine in her system. Don't know what they did but the pharmacist got involved and said he had had a lot of complaints about this particular patch. (This was a year ago). So pharmacist replaced unused patches with a different brand. And Walla it worked and showed up in her tests like it is suppose to. So yes it does happen.

I've been told by my Dr. that I have come out negative for my fentanyl patches but he's also told me that I've tested positive for cocaine and I don't do drugs, well only what the Dr. prescribes and he only has me on fentanyl patches of 50 mcg, so why won't it show up!
